ShortFatHokie Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 In your most cigar-experienced opinion... How do the Partagas Lusitanias, 8-9-8 Varnished, Serie D No. 4, and Serie P No. 2, compare/differ from one another as far as flavors/strengths of each cigar? Put them in order of preference (favorite to least favorite)...if you haven't smoked them all, put the ones you have smoked in preferential order. I'd love to hear/read your answers.
BulldogUK Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Luis is absoluted gorgeous...medium strength...smooth and complex...best balance flavor for me...memorible experience from every sticks...IMHO P2 is a bit stronger than Luis...burn issue existed in many sticks D4...small percentage are awesome...many more are mediocre...had no memorible experience yet
subport Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Lusitania Psd4 P2 Lusi is all about complexity and balance. Med strenght with full flavour. More than brilliant cigars. Psd4 is absolutely lovely when on. Super simple, don't buy them blind. Use Rob's advice and go with HQ, PSP and you will never regret. It is med (for me) , med to full (for lot of you) sweet and spice and leather. I only smoked about 10 P2's and did not like them as much. Medium and somehow muted.
Rye Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 898's- rich, powerful, smooth Lusi's- similar as above with a journey of flavour transitions in a long cool smoking experience. PSD4- unrivaled when on. Even 2 years works wonders on a good box. A **** box will remain shitty, only older. PSP2- find a good box, and hide them. Some I have with 6-7yrs age are a layered smoke that consistently gains in taste and power during the smoking experience.
Maplepie Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 PSP2- find a good box, and hide them. Some I have with 6-7yrs age are a layered smoke that consistently gains in taste and power during the smoking experience. hard to find an occasion to smoke it......
SteveGriff Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 From my experience of Partagas Serie P No. 2 - when you first get a box, lie them down for at least a year before smoking one and then smoke another a few months down the road. Serie D No 4 are ready earlier but have found them difficult to love the last four or five years, they just don't dance like the way they did back in 2006-2008 1
SCgarman Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Nobody mentioned Partagas shorts. I have tried Partagas 898, D4, Mille Fleurs, Super Partagas, Shorts and the Shorts get my vote. 1
subport Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Nobody mentioned Partagas shorts. I have tried Partagas 898, D4, Mille Fleurs, Super Partagas, Shorts and the Shorts get my vote. Because the OP asked about 4 cigars. Lusi, 898, psd4, psp2. "How do the Partagas Lusitanias, 8-9-8 Varnished, Serie D No. 4, and Serie P No. 2, compare/differ from one another as far as flavors/strengths of each cigar?"
Rye Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 E2s and P2s are probably the only true ones left. BAAHAHAHAHA! 2
Rye Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 hard to find an occasion to smoke it...... They are smoking very, very well. I really hope you get what I do out of the one I sent! Long ashes man! 1
ogus Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Serie D No. 4, 8-9-8 Varnished, Partagas Lusitanias, and Serie P No. 2 Fullness, taste, spiciness and value in descending order reverse the order for aesthetics as much as I wanted to love all these the robusto and shorts are favorites
saintsmokealot Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I understand the question but in terms of my favorite's of Partagas I rank 898, D4's, E2's, and Lusi's. Each smoke has its own characteristics based on format.
BulldogUK Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 My personal preference: 1) Luis 2) E2 3) Shorts 4) P2 5) D4 6) MF White pepper combined with leather, perfectly paired with Islay with strong peat...IMHO
joshua84 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 For me it's: Luis D4 E2 P2 Luis has always gave me the best smoking experience. Complex and a cool smoke due to its length. One from a 2008 box is to die for. The D4 are fantastic for every day with a well balanced smoke. The flavours are not overwhelming and the nicotine doesn't slams you buy I only buy when El Prez says so. E2 was like a milder but bigger D4. Didn't like the P2. Burn issue and harsh.

Perhaps I haven't been patient enough. And I much prefer the 898 and Lusis to the rest of the line.
imangelo Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Smoking a dynamite PSP2 right now. Rich, flavourful and more complex than the Monte 2 yet still mild.
Boss Hog Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 My order of preference would be: 1. 898 2. Lusitanias 3. Serie D No. 4 4. Serie P No. 2
421eme Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 1 - Lusitanias 2 - Serie E 2 3 - 898 4 - Serie P 2 5 - Serie D 4 6 - Mille Fleurs 7 - Shorts Your original question cigars are in there, but I've also added the rest of the line that I smoke as well. Hope this helps, Carl
stigmata Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 i smoke all Partagas D4 the most But i love them all. Theyre all similar and different. They all are slightly different from box to box and development For me it all depends which one i feel like at any particular time. the Lusitania takes over 2 hours so i need plenty of time for that.. plus its milder but very rich and complex (my current box is 2012 and its awesome) Shorts if i have little time.. cant go wrong with these if you like a hit of leather pepper and earth.they smoth out after 18 minutes to a very smooth shorty... either way theyre nice. PD4 have been uber consistent over the last 18 months in my experience. P2 need more time i reckon its a 5 year aging .. but that is all variable and depends what you have and what its like The older 898s were strictly lay down affairs ... a few years minimum .. now theyre easier to smoke fresh.. but consistency is a slight issue. plus availability of good boxes of 10s
Maplepie Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I really miss the churchill de luxe............. 2
Habana Mike Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 That and the Partagás de Partagás No.1 My go of the ones mentioned is 898, Lusi, D4, P2
