Come to Brazil and you will see what high prices can be.

And they don't even let you drive yours all the time!

Mainland China is like this, too. Well, the imports are.

Porsche Cayennes would be 150 000 CAD. Up from the 75 000 they command here.

Plus, there's a non-optional license plate fee of 5-20 000 dollar per car.

We joke that it's basically buy 2 for the price of 1.

I know cars are expensive in plenty of places in the world .....Singapore comes to mind.

Yet I know Sing dealers that would do 40 cars a month....let alone 60 cars in 6 months for a Country albeit a poor one at that.

Even if some Cubans had the money, I doubt they'd be running to the state run car dealership. That's just inviting trouble. "A fine choice Mr Gonzalez. Now. Where did you come up with such a handsome sum?"

Agreed Frank.

The ridiculous thing is that you could hire a driver with a decent car for 3 years, 365 days a year for the price of a second hand Lada.

Come on Lada is a great choice of vehicle. Back in the socialist days in Hungary you had to wait 3-5 years to get a Lada, unless you were a bureaucrat in the party.

Those car prices are insane! 262k for a Peugeot! What's the approx. price for gas in Cuba?

Approx $1.25/liter for gasolina and I am not sure but I think diesel is something like $0.45/liter. Which is why all cars are converted to mostly Hyundai diesel motors, even in the old yankee mobiles.

Sounds like the state sanctioned monopoly can't compete with the black market. What a surprise!
