My grandfather is 87 and has chewed snuff (Skoal at first, now Red Seal) since he was 13. I've never seen him without chew in his mouth.

On special occasions I'll have a "dip" with him to appease him. I absolutely love the feeling it gives, but hate the small bits of tobacco swirling around my mouth. I've never tried actual chewing tobacco, but that sounds like it's more up my alley. I'll definitely give it a try.

Tony Gwynn loved his chew too.....

I used to dip mint and peach Skoal back when, but I ended up switching over to Swedish snus. The General White is my favorite nowadays, just pure salty tobacco goodness with no lip bulge or spitting.

I wanted to try it as well as a friend of my fathers.. On my return from Italy I had a few tins of coppenhagen long cut from duty free.. it was keep those or 3 of my 5 trini reyes in customs.. :(

Skoal - straight - longcut, daily here, pretty much exclusively. We don't have a lot to choose from in New England. Years ago I had something called 'Old Cannonball'? that I loved. It came from Va. Md. area IIRC. It was pressed in a brick and you cut or bit a piece off.

Not big on flavored tobacco. I like mine tobacco flavored.

BTW, Cuban tobacco is phenomenal for chewing straight. Some times I will cut a half inch or so off the foot to save for chew. and of course I've been know to nibble the cap before lighting up.

I'll have to look to see what's available online. I'm happy with Skoal and it's easy to get, but love trying new things.

Dan

You can still buy old cannon ball down here.

Anybody ever take two pieces of double bubble bubble gum and wrap it around a ball chew..

First time I tried it I was 19 playing softball and still do it from time to time..

Terry Francona manager of the Cleveland Indians chews that way all the time..

He chews Lancaster..

chewing latakia is just a strange idea if you ask me....

After looking this up it sounds like an explosive in the Middle East.

And David, if I ever come to visit in Texas, kissing is out.

Never got into chew at all. Had a roommate for a while who was always chewing... leaving his spit cups everywhere. It was gross. Then one day I went to take a pull off a can of Coke sitting on the coffee table and - ERMAGERD!!!! - took a pull of tobaccy spit instead. Man, oh man, was I pissed. I gave him so much crap for not ditching those spit cans/cups, but he thought it was funny as hell. He was only my roommate for 3 months. I thought that was funny as hell.

Any slight inclination I may have had to try chew at one point was forever lost after that particular moment in time.

A friend of mine roomed with Devante Smith-Pelly in ontario a few summers ago (before his nhl days) and he would take his chew out of his mouth and stick in on counters or railings. That didn't last long either.

That would do it. The ex-roomy had a great sense of humour.

Oh man....that sounds much worse than the time I got a mouth full of toenails from the bottom of a box of crackers. Brutal.

Ha! Had a buddy who both drank from my spitter and ate my toenails... although, this was from the bottom of a chip bag...

Yup, got my first dip as a child from my trucker uncle.I wanted to be like him. Tatoos ,cowboy boots and hat, the whole deal.

My friends and I liberated a sleeve of Copenhagen from a salesmans car that was sitting at the grocery store.I paid for that by laying in the city park while the world wouldn't stop spinning. Never chewed as a habit but still like to have Redman or Beachnut from time to time. I buy a pouch of Beachnut wintergreen every spring but never get through the whole thing by fall.
