Skyfall Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I love my CC's, and I'm pretty opinionated about Nc's, but my first love and still #1 passion is Chewing tobacco and snuff. My passion goes in this order: 1) Chewing Tobacco 2) CC's 3) Snuff Backstory: I started dipping Copenhagen Snuff and Chewing Tobacco when I was 13, which is very normal in my neck of the woods. During these years, I dipped everything from Copenhagen Snuff to Kodiak, to Skoal, to Wolf Creek to Stokers. I chewed everything from Redman Original, Redman Golden Blend, Levi Garrett, Levi Extra, Beech-Nut and Stokers. (Plugs and Chew Alike). Now during college I smoked Camels just socially, never gained an addition or made it habitual, but in college I was up to 2 cans of Copenhagen snuff a day and 2 pouches of Redman a week. I started smoking CC's at age 18 - which was 16 years ago. All of this leads me to this. I just had my latest dental check up and my Dentist is fully aware of my smokeless tobacco habit, he's been my orthodontist/dentist since age 11. He informed me that he sees ZERO NEGATIVE EFFECT OF 21 YEARS OF HABITUALLY USING SMOKELESS TOBACCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As with any hobby, just like CC's when you get older an learn ,and progress your palate, you matriculate to certain higher end options. For me this screams STOKERS!!!! I no longer dip anymore, I haven't since 2003, but I still love Chewing Tobacco very much!!!!!!! As far as I am concerned, it doesn't get any better than: Stoker's Apple Stoker's Butternut Stoker's is the highest quality Chew you can find, with the best flavors on the market. Not imitation flavors, real deal, mom & pop flavors, quality and service!!! I currently buy the 16 oz ( 1lbs) bags of Stokers, I will go through one every 2 weeks. If you haven't tried Stoker's you are doing yourself a disservice!!! Occasionally I will still put a dip of Copenhagen Wintergreen in when hunting or fishing.... Any other smokeless fans out there????????/
bradbrennan Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 That reminds me, I think you said you made your own as well? Share a recipe by chance??
Rye Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Man, I'd love to get back into this, but our stupid govt. makes it ridiculous to warrant the costs. I'll still grab a tin of Copenhagen if I'm asked to help on the tractors for planting/cutting crops, but that hasn't happened in a couple of years now. Great. Now that I've read this thread, I'm gonna have a serious hankerin
Skyfall Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 That reminds me, I think you said you made your own as well? Share a recipe by chance?? I have made my own flavors of chew in the following: Black Cherry Peach Grandma's Home Churned Ice Cream but the recipe really does no justice if you aren't growing your own high quality tobacco. I can send you some.....

hulklogan Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Used to dip for 5 years or so, just absolutely loved it. For me, citrus Skoal was the absolute best (in a dish-soapy kind of way). I have a problem with my gums now, receding and what not... had to quit. Always wanted to try chew, never got around to it...
Laxman Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I have been chewing since 6th grade. Applejack, red man, plug. Started dipping in college and started off with skoal mint and quickly moved to Copenhagen. The last 20 years still dipping a tin a day of kodiak. Surprisingly my dentist says everything looks fine. Have had two endoscopes and my gastro gave me the all clear but advised me to stop. Guess I have always been a nicotine fiend. Never smoked but now dipping a tin a day and smoking two cigars can't be good. If I had to give up one it would be tough. My first love is dipping but it's gotten to the point where I just have to do it and it's lost it's luster a bit. But CC's taste so damn good. Getting married next May or so and my fiancé wants me to stop dipping as she somehow wants me around. She doesn't mind cigars and likes the smell. It's been a great run with the chew but I don't want to push my luck any further with it. Also it's a bear to quite have tried twice and got seriously depressed and was miserable so ended up going back. Plus I can see myself smoking 12 cigars a day if I quite dip lol.
Skyfall Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 If you are a chewer, and you haven't had Stoker's Apple or Butternut, I implore you to get some now!

But I'd love to try yours if you're willing to send some up, I'll try to come up with something from our north country to repay the favor. I'll send you a pm

fookite Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I used to dip mint and peach Skoal back when, but I ended up switching over to Swedish snus. The General White is my favorite nowadays, just pure salty tobacco goodness with no lip bulge or spitting. 1
Pedro2486 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 So can u explain the differences to an ignorant Aussie. What's the difference between the different types: snus, chew, dip etc. I have a big interest in smokeless tobacco and would like to know more before ordering anything online

Dip = come in snuf, straight, long cut, original ect. and in those forms, comes in flavors or non flavors. it is very fine tobacco and goes in the bottom of your lip. It's a scientific fact to add years to your life. Chew = What God intended. Rough cut tobacco aged and cured, good nicotine, low in chemicals and outside influences...pretty much pure tobacco. You chew it in your cheek , and it juices like a champ.

sengjc Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Not sure if this is considered "smokeless" per-se but I have started using the e-cigarette in hopes that it can help me curb the cigarette. Still on early stages so not really considered a fan yet.
brutusthebuckeye Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Yo D...I've tried just about every chew/snuff made over the last 25 years.. I'm a can of Skoal Mint a day guy..but love my Red Man Golden Blend wen mowing or October baseball is on..
Smallclub Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 …yum… industrial tobacco + industrial flavors, right in your mouth… paired with tyre alcohol, I suppose?
DWC Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Skoal - straight - longcut, daily here, pretty much exclusively. We don't have a lot to choose from in New England. Years ago I had something called 'Old Cannonball'? that I loved. It came from Va. Md. area IIRC. It was pressed in a brick and you cut or bit a piece off. Not big on flavored tobacco. I like mine tobacco flavored. BTW, Cuban tobacco is phenomenal for chewing straight. Some times I will cut a half inch or so off the foot to save for chew. and of course I've been know to nibble the cap before lighting up. I'll have to look to see what's available online. I'm happy with Skoal and it's easy to get, but love trying new things. Dan 1
ShortFatHokie Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Growing up, all my friends dipped snuff. I tried it but wasn't a fan. However, my dad chewed, my uncles all chewed, my grandfather chewed, my grandmother's brother chewed, my great grandfather chewed. So naturally, I gravitated toward chewing tobacco. Think I had my first chew when I was 10 (didn't have any "nanny government" telling my I couldn't use tobacco products as a child)...and yes, I did get sick that first time. After a while it became natural. I chewed until my early 20s and just gave it up (by that time I had discovered other vices...). I preferred Redman, but also chewed Levi Garret and Beech-Nut. My uncles were Redman fans, my dad was a Beech-Nut man, and my grandfather favored Levi Garret. My grandmother's brother was a plug man, which I only tried once or twice...he always said it would put hair on your chest. Its probably been 25 years since the last time I had a chew but every time I go through the grocery store or WalMart, I'll look over and see all the tobacco products on the shelf and reminisce a bit. May have to go buy a pouch of Redman for old time sake...
