Easy, you jam a butter knife in the little toothy wheel and crank that bad boy back.

Technology yo!

rob actually gave me my current phone years ago because he got sick of watching me stick a knife into the old one to turn it on as the little rubber on/off button had worn away.

perhaps the thing i enjoy most about this forum, other than getting to take the piss out of rob, is the way that members interact and assist each other. i know that there are occasional disagreements, sometimes a bit fierce (gun advocates, doesn't mean i don't love you), but other than one or two tossers who have completely transgressed the spirit of the forum (and you won't know who you are because you are no longer here), it is a fabulous group.

i am always amazed at the way people jump in and assist each other - not just re cigars, but about almost anything. cars, books, movies, places, you name it.

occasionally i have raised computer issues but to be honest, when advice comes back, no matter how simple, it may as well be in japanese.

not my best few days - fighting (unsatisfactorily) with qantas, banks, cleaning the gutters (at least this time, i did not have 8 foot of grumpy carpet snake stick its head up next to me). then had to get up at 4am to collect the family from the airport and they have all come back with some form of ebola-like flu which they have coughed all over me - just what you want a few days before you have 30 hours on planes. but this computer, and the new friend it picked up, was really annoying me and making me a very unhappy person.

anyway, habana mike sent me a page of instructions on removing this virus (the instructions were very close to japanese) and i nearly didn't even try, but eventually i gave it a go (of course, the instructions don't exactly correlate with the names, tags etc on my anchor - would it kill them to have the same names throughout the industry?). of course, for all i know, i have started an auto-destruct countdown deep in the machine.

a bit of it was making a leap of faith but i figured that i was no worse off, even if i did delete things i shouldn't, or start the countdown.

a sunday morning miracle - it seems, so far, that i may have removed the offending addition and am back to as before (i won't say normal). fingers crossed but we might be home (not wanting to jinx it).

mike, you cannot imagine how relieved i am. and how i went from extremely grumpy to seriously happy. extremely grateful.

may life provide you with front row seats at the next bruce concert!

i'm working up the courage to tackle my ipod next!

Hey Ken,

Glad to hear it may have worked for you. I've been dealing with eradicating malware for years so it was no stretch to provide some guidance.

Looking forward to that next Bruce concert now I have front row, eh!
