MIKA27
I love the underdog upsets, and Chile is my favorite long-shot team. +1 Chile are a great team, would love to see them do well.
Armaniac
France don't have their secret weapon in Zinedine Zidane any more... I know he didn't go out on a high but, I still rank him among the greatest footballers of all time. A master with ball and game control. Sad day when he retired......
El Presidente
If I don't back Spain my mum and dad will shoot me I love long shot teams however. If Australia win a game in their pool then there should be an investigation as to the influence of illegal bookmakers on the tournament Frank (Lisa's husband) has convinced me Croatia will do well. I will take them as a smokey.

Sad day when he retired...... My comment wasn't one with a negative intention about Zidane... I agree with yourself in that he is one of the very best Footballers of all time. I hate it when people get old and need to retire from a sport at a professional level.

Erm310mce
I always go for France. They don't have the team to do it this time but my loyalties stay with them. Oh no, a Habs fan and now a French soccer fan! As you know I love the bruins but as an Italian citizen I bleed blue. Forza Italia!!!! Now we really need to have that smoke someday! All in good fun my friend, cheers! I think Italy has a great shot to go deep, if they can stay healthy they have a chance. Lot of Juve players out there....

jeremyk
Anyone watch the US tune up game this week ? I know it was only 2-0 should of been more if not for two great saves against wonderlowski. What did y'all think of the line up defense looked ok not much action for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Our backline still scares the crap out of me (I'm still mystified why Bocanegra isn't at least on the roster to provide some experience), but you never know with a young team. Johannsson and Diskerud showed some spark so who knows, the next two games should be interesting.

Smalls
The World Cup is my favorite sporting event by far. I have a tradition of buying a match ball from every world cup. I am a USA fan, but I have a feeling they would have to beat all three teams to make it out of the group. Ghana has proven to be a really big problem for the US over the last couple of WC's. Because of that, I find it hard to have any real expectations. I think that how well the US team does depends a lot on how well Bradley plays. Most of our better offensive strikes have begun with a great ball from Bradley. I am also curious to see how much Julian Green plays. He is supposedly our most talented player, but he doesn't have any experience. Can't wait for the matches to start. For my fellow USA fans... Don't forget that they play Turkey in a friendly on Sunday.

Grahamsant
I should be a patriot and support England but the reality is they barely have a chance in getting very far. Nevertheless I will continue to put myself through the never ending disappointment and watch their matches anyway! ;-) I notice quite a bit of support for Chile, I also quite like them as an underdog this year and managed to put a cheeky little bet on them a few weeks ago at 40-1. Should be a nice return if they come through!
MattW
Fingers crossed for England, but I'm not that confident, especially as we've got a tricky group!
Habanos2000
I think the US is consistently fielding better and better talent at every WC, and I'm definitely behind them, but I don't see them getting out of the group stage. Being half German you know who my favorite pick is, but I'm so looking forward to all the key matches. Can't wait!

Altidore, while being influential on the pitch, really still needs to step up and get a goal as he hasn't shown himself in quite a while. Also, Klinsmann has done wonders for the squad so far (heh, I'm half german so of course I've got some love for him) but the back line looks like how we did in high school when my tiny little double A school played state ranked No. 2 in sectionals. and it wasn't good. There's supposedly a 4-4-2 in there somewhere. I know it is a hodge-podge of players who aren't used to playing with each other but they need to work well in order to compete with der Deutsche or the likes of the pretty haired lightning Ronaldo. Smalls
I personally don't think this USA team is nearly as good as the 2002 team that made it to the quarter finals. They were good enough to beat Germany on that day, but they had some really bad luck. I think they have a chance to be that good, but they need more experience. They need to have a better first and second touch on the ball. The connection between Bradley and Johnson, for example in today's game, should be a little more consistent. This defense could also lead to some embarrassing results in their group if they don't start clicking together a little better. In my opinion, this team is a little too young to have much expectation. This world cup will be a good place to start though. The good news is that Bradley should have at least one more WC in him. It would also be nice if the US could stop drawing these horrible refs.

There are at least 3 players over thirty, for a soccer player standpoint, thats pretty old. Miroslav Klose for example is is 37, and I foresee this being his last appearance. I need him to get 2 more goals this WC to get the all time goals scored record. It may be 1 actually, currently tied with the old Ronaldo.
perkinke
I'm a little concerned we're going the same direction as England, our players keep getting better, but they can't seem to find the groove as a team. I think these players are more talented than in 2002, but I think you're right about 2002 being a better team. On the field leadership is lacking. Howard can only do so much from the goal, Bradley just hasn't emerged as a leader, though when he takes over and drives forward the team follows, and Dempsey....well, i'm not a fan of his attitude or behavior, especially the way he has behaved in MLS this year. However, only 6 of the 23 have played in a world cup before. Spain, on the other hand, is returning 16 players that were in the last WC. Hopefully, Dempsey will set a good example for the offense.. And Beasley will do the same for the defense.

A lot of the US players also don't have the same 'lifetime' so to speak. some of the euro players have been on the pitch since they hit 21, not so much the case with many of us Red/White/Blues.
