ejewell
Starts up in about a month, anyone have any thoughts on what's going to go down or who they want to win? I unfortunately am half-german, in the states. So both teams I would root for are in this WC's "group of death" I hope US and Germany pull through. God I hate Ronaldo's pretty boy hair. Lol. melies
I'm Mexican-Spanish so at least I can root for Spain, Mexico is just going for a short vacation sadly. But I think zee Germans are winning this one mate
jlacava88
Would love to see the Italians take the trophy home... A European team has never won on South American soil, it'll be tough. Brazil and Argentina look strong as well... Should be a very entertaining tournament!
CaptainQuintero
I'm really looking forward to it! Loads of teams could win it this time around, lots of exciting young teams too. I just hope Spain don't get to the final so I don't have to watch another borefest of tikatika aka piggy in the middle until the opposition is too tired. Whoever does win I hope it's the result of playing fast attacking and most of all entertaining football, not the soul sucking style that has killed the spectacle of recent tournaments. Looking forward to watching Belgium, Brazil, France, England, some exciting young talent not tested on the big stage yet
rshacklefordiv
I generally root for the US, and after the home country, Chile, and Argentina. Beyond that, my rooting is mostly against as opposed to for. Brazil should be exciting to watch. My wife is Italian, and Italy is the team I like the least, so Italy matches are usually fun in my household.

Stanislaw
I'm with you, will be rooting for the US as it's my home and Germany which is my adopted home... but i think that this world cup will be dominated by latin america, in regards to atmosphere in the stadiums and the climate down there, it's unlikely european teams can keep up with the likes of Argentina and Brazil... but that makes it all the more exciting to watch as there will definitely be surprises... i can truly forsee France and Italy getting retribution for their last few tournament showings... Hiroshiro
I'm hoping Colombia gets in form without Falcao but I'm sure Japan and Colombia will be okay for the Opening round. Round of 16 however... there is always hope = )

Andrew11
Half Italian so I always go for Italy. After that being Canadian I'll always cheer for my neighbor USA. No idea who is the fav, don't follow soccer very close.
El Guero
Brasil. I just think it's their year. A lot of good futbol coming up for sure. The most exciting tournament in the world.

AlastairE
Starts up in about a month (...) Try 2 weeks! June 13-14th depending on your time zone I'm super excited. Definitely going to be trying to reverse my body clock for the month. Ideally work, straight to bed, wake up at midnight, dinner, World Cup, coffee, work - and repeat the process. Prep starts this weekend. Blow up air mattress will be purchased and I will knock off some overnighters at the office. You don't wait 4 years to take this halfheartedly Australia are going to get destroyed. I'm resigned to that already. Lowest ranked team in the WC for a reason... I'd love to see Belgium, Uruguay and Colombia do well. Some underdogs would be great to watch. Would also love to see Netherlands/Spain lose out to Chile in the group stages. England have an insanely good squad this year, and the English press isn't all over them. They could do well if they negotiate themselves out of the group, but then again, it's England and they'll surely let everyone down. Brazil have the talent and support to win, Germany is just a class lineup, Italy are a threat if Balo is on song, Argentina are a huge threat if Messi, Kun, Di Maria etc can link up.

I love the underdog upsets, and Chile is my favorite long-shot team.
perkinke
I'd love to see the US do well, but realistically I will be a bit surprised if we get out of the group. I think Klinsi made a good choice leaving Donovan at home, aside from the last world cup he has usually failed to show in big games. Aside from the US I generally side with England, but I think they're going home early too. Lots of great players but not a good team. As for favorites, I'd have to go with Brazil (Neymar will win the individual gold in the 5-meter springboard competition) and if Suarez gets back (much as I dislike him) I think Uruguay could have a good shot. Sver
Strangely i haven't decided on who to root for this time around :/ I cheered for Spain 2004 and onwards but as someone pointed out it is not exactly the most appealing style of play, i prefer fast direct attacking play, teams that play with purpose (look at Atletico & Dortmund, even Liverpool) For that reason i might go with Germany. I'm curious to see how Varane & Pogba will do at World Cup stage for France as well. I certainly hope it's not Brazil that takes it.
jeremyk
Being an American I'm rooting for the USA even though it's going to take several great performances from them to make it out of the group of death. I'll also go for the Dutch I love their style of play n am a huge fan of RVP and Robben. Should be a great World Cup so many contenders who could be champs! Chile are known to play this type of football, and even though Bielsa isn't in charge any more. High tempo teams who can transition fast and effectively will be the most successful this World Cup. Spain's possession based football is beatable if you know how.
Dmatzkin
I am with Argentina. As an Argentinean living in Canada I have no choice....I like not having a choice on this one . Just hope they dont disappoint this time. Maradona is nowhere close to the team so who knows, we may have a chance!! My only concern with Argentina winning it would be the stupid government taking credit or using it for "propaganda"....oh well, good luck everyone and lets hope for a fun, well organized cup!!! ejewell
I love all these replies! Genuine input with regards to all teams. Sorry about the time confusion, I have no legitimate excuse for that goof! haha. I just cant even think where to start with regards to feedback on the comments. I could rant all day about FIFA and the world cup. I just want Germany to win overall. I hate spain because they have been the downfall of the Germans in the last 3 major competitions. The previous two Euros as well as the previous world cup. Bastards. lol. I need to find a good underdog team. I would say Belgium but they really aren't underrated. I've seen them play and they are surprisingly spot on.

I would love to see a smaller team take the heavyweights by surprise with ballsy attacking football and cause upsets
DrunkenMonkey
I'm very excited about the US team, and think they are clearly the best team the US has fielded in my memory. That said, they're still not going to be good enough to get out of this group. But progress is progress, and it will be great to see them play against such great teams as Germany, Portugal, and Ghana.
