Lant63 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I've bought boxes of neither one. While I really like the Extra's that I've smoked I'm not sure why there's none in my stash. As for the Superiores, I'd be silly to buy them while I still have access to the Gorditos which are smoking fantastically I have been looking to try these. Recently many people from the GREAT WHITE NORTH have been raving about them. I think I may order a box for my birthday.
Pedro2486 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Once again I am reminded by the great people of this forum to trust my gut and go my own way. RA extras here we come 1
Skyfall Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS PICTURE OF ME???? Grinder.....
melies Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 thanks to all for the replies, I finally got up a poll, it would be great to hear your opinions. BTW I have boxes of both and I used to be more partial to the superiores, but has an allones extra the other day that blew me away.
Yagermeister Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 But seriously: i actually enjoyed all three of the Extras i smoked. In fact, pairing it with a good cognac made me feel like i was smoking an NC with development. Now- i know that doesn't make people rush out to buy them - calling a 'premium' CC an NC... But it worked for me! Probably also because i went into the smoke thinking it'd be absolute shite. That's a pretty good way to describe the Extras. I actually remember enjoying the 1 Extra I've had slightly more than the Superiores, but I'll have to sample another one before I make my final judgment.
Lotusguy Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Inspired by this thread I am just finishing another RAE. Rather earthy and yes, it does remind me a bit of a very good NC. Nothing wrong with that. I recommend getting both, since they are very different animals. 1
godpheonix Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 the RA extra, some of you may not think so but this one as a serious aging potential. the superiores are pretty good now but the Extras will be amazing years from now!!! i heard they have been blended very much like the 60-70's version, i beleive it...its seriously full bodied like the cigars of old. this one needs time but you'll be really rewarded down the line.
LeafLover Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 My first box of Extras I've smoked 20 already, consistently tastes like average NC's, consistently inconsistent construction. Mostly tight affecting the flavor, some plugged, one with good draw. I have one more full box that has nice wrappers. Gonna forget about them for a long long time. Not a fan at all.

Professor Twain Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I've smoked through a box of the Superiores and love them. To me they are reminiscent of one of the best cigars I've ever had, the RA 898. I'm adding to my stock and aiming to age the rest of mine at least 5 years before smoking them. I bought a 5er of the RA Extra and have smoked 3. Don't care for it. Some have described it as charcoal flavored or like a NC. I'd agree.
vinnyvega Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I swear the Extra has Nicaraguan tobacco in it. It's terrible.
ajgagnon Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I remember loving my Extras from a box split, but they now have a charry characteristic like others have described. I think I have about 6 left, so I'll let them rest another year before trying again. Had one a week or two ago that was strong, dark and generally too much for the sunny early afternoon I was enjoying. I like the size, and the tobacco is good, if a bit over-fermented, but that's the style they were going for. Mine had the toothy wrapper. Dark, meaty, mushrooms and dark chocolate/coffee is what I remember. I've never tried the Superiores.
leatherman Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Not a fan of the Extras, huge fan of the Sup's!! 1
BRAC Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Superiores by a mile! Not a fan of the Extra either I'm sorry to say. Something about that cigar doesn't sit well on my palate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jvel79 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Had an Extra last night enjoyed every bit. Unfortunately I haven't tried the Superiores but will be picking some and see what the fuss is all about.
jedipastor Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I'm surprised by the lack of love for the Extras! To me they are an amped-up RASS ... gaining spiciness while sacrificing some of the creaminess. I wouldn't want to give up either of those sticks, as it's a toss-up which I'll prefer from day to day. I guess I can see people not liking how full-bodied the Extras are. Plus some people just can't perceive the flavors out of full-bodied cigars (just like others can't out of mild cigars). 3
smh Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Put up the Superiores for my local cigar club's blind review this month and all 14 guys loved it. So much so that the 3 of them ordered boxes and 8 others split 4 boxes between them. Haven't had the Extra, but the Sup is in my top 5. ULA box codes haven't let me down on anything I've had.
dubleuhb Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Enjoying an LRE ABR 10 Superior right now, fantastic cigar ! Had a few boxes stashed away and couldn't resist any longer. I agree with those about the Extras and letting them get old and crusty, have a couple boxes that won't get opened for a few more years.
Chelsea8 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Had a 2014 Superiores on Sunday and think they will need abit more ageing time. Have to say that I was also smoking a 2009 Siglo IV at the same time, so it could just be that I was enjoying the Siglo's more.
