mash Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Leaf is currently incarcerated at Crossroads Correctional Facility in Shelby, Montana. I just read the story about him. What a train wreck.
Ken Gargett Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 1994 Heath shuler, Washington Redskins. Drafted 3 rd overall, sat on bench for two seasons, played one and was traded! Lasted 7 starts and was the highest paid draft pick for a quarterback in the early 90's. Now he is in politics. remember him. supposed to be the best thing in decades. complete bust. i have a feeling we also took a bloke called gus ferrotte? in about the 7th (not sure if the same year). he took over. no great shakes but way better than heath.

Yes, it was the same year as Shuler. He actually made a decent career for himself mostly as a backup. He did make one Pro Bowl though early in his career. He went to college here locally so I remember him well.
DrunkenMonkey Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Heath Schuler turned out to be a terrible pick, but Akili Smith was much more of a stupid pick. Schuler was great in college, and in the SEC. Smith played in the PAC 10 when that conference was terrible, played for like one year, and yet he was also taken 3rd overall. Expecting Schuler to be a good NFL QB was reasonable; expecting Akili Smith to be a good NFL QB was more of a creative exercise.

Smalls Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I need to at least mention my Kansas City Chiefs. In 1983 they drafted Todd Blackledge number 7 overall ahead of BOTH Jim Kelly and Dan Marino.
