People are curious creatures. Take myself for example. A perfectly reasonable middle aged man, yet I recently became fascinated with bowling pins. I bought four new pins and am looking for a few more.

Have you considered African cichlids? Everyone needs cichlids

Good point. But then I'd need a bowling ball and I am not in the least bit fascinated by bowling balls...yet. Wilkey

Nice collection, sir.

Curious, are there any bowling pin collector forums out there? Seems like there are for just about every other hobby or interest....

Funny you mention this. As a mailman I am always amazed at the different types of magazines I see going through the mail. There really is a magazine for everything and I would not be surprised if there is a "bowling pin monthly" or something of the sort.

Personally, I'd call it "Pinsetter" or "Rack & Set".

Orchids .Bought the wife one in 2006.Then a few more that year.

It's 2014,we have 3000 or so orchids, and a big (18 x 36) greenhouse,and a second smaller greenhouse for potting and seedlings.

When we see a new cross we buy a flask (usually 25 to 50 babies) and rationalize it, saying we will sell a few.

Never happens...........

Awesome! Reminds me of my plants collections, but on a grander scale.

I thought I was doing well with over 60 Cammelias and over 20 dissectum weeeping Japanese Maples (and growing) .... But you just blew my garden out of the water.

Don't think it's all that strange, but I recently started a small Murano glass collection. I have always loved glass, and the Murano style is incredible. Too many fakes out there though....

i used to collect vomit bags from airlines - clean and unused i stress - no idea why. had heaps, and some from some seriously weird airlines from asia, africa and places. then one day i just thought nup. tossed the lot. never missed them.

as a kid, did the usual stamps and animals and all sorts of things.

now just wine, books and fishing gear - but they are all perfectly sane and expected of any bloke.

I always thought it would be fun to serve popcorn from these...just to get a reaction from guests.

No kidding! I was on a beach in Mexico and this guy tried to sell me fake glass in a Cohiba topped box.

Ancient artifacts(legally acquired). I like stone, projectile points and pottery from the ancient Americas. Egyptian antiquities, roman antiquities. Chineese jade. Really anything ancient. I don't collect from a specific culture or time period, I tend to like it all. I also like fossils and meteorites and some historic antiques from the early American to the civil war.

I like antique firearms but no longer have any in my collection. Had to sell to get us through a long layoff from work. Old ammunition from the revolutionary-civil war. Old paper hull shotgun shells/boxes

I collect more cigars than I smoke

I like briar pipes and old clay pipes along with a hoard of pipe tobacco in my cellar

Think that's about it? :)

Ive been a collector (read: hoarder) since I was a kid. Everything from baseball cards, coins, vinyl records..hell, cigars!...the list goes on and on. At some point I convinced myself they're investments to justify the amount of time and money I've spent on them, but when time comes to cash out I often find myself too emotionally attached haha

I collect beetles, butterflies and other insects. Started as a kid, never stopped being intrigued by them.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing. That is quite the unusual collection.

Admittedly I was pretty manic with laughter during the whole ordering and delivery process.. But yeah I just felt kinda wearing it. Going to get a mask and Cape too eventually just incase the need to save gotham arises.

Not sure what bought it on, I'm not a huge marvel fan. Like the movie etc but I don't own any figurines etc. Been the most self admitted random thing so far.

I collect my cigar bands and boxes too. I got all nostalgic at one stage and bought the master sword and shield from my favourite childhood videogame Zelda.. Any parts I remove off a bike or damage in an accident I either keep in a box or hang around the shed..

Military bike Ive now amassed everything I need for a complete military issue restoration. Some things I have two of because I wasn't sure which was better quality. Also have a mannequin I've called frank who ive dressed in the full uniform, have the model machine gun proper metal model. Some dress pieces for bike..

Bought a restored 40era fuel bowser because it was BP..I like BP..it's British..and therefore was a logical match to a 40s BSA I have..

Etc.. Etc..

Wow! Yours looks so much better than mine! Haha! Admittedly not bought from fascination...I bought one so that I could take part in fun run dressed as a superhero and raise money for charity. Here's my (god awful) effort...don't all laugh at once!!!

In terms of collections...I used to collect guitar plectrums but sold them when I sold my guitar. I have kept every Cigar Tube I've ever had though! Not a big collection so far but I think I'd rather collect the presentation boxes than the tubes.

Wilkey, I KNEW I saw something about the bowling pins!!! Btw, I meant to mention, a buddy of mine is a mechanic for a bowling alley - or whatever you would call someone in the back fixing the racks. I would bet he could get his hands on several pins.

On to my little.... quarks??

I didn't collect vomit bags, but I did used to write extensive letters on them to whomever might read it on the next flight. I would tell a little info about myself and what was going on in my life. I flew home a lot while in college...

Pencils, one Christmas, that was all I asked for.

Vinyl records: have a few hundred.

I HAVE to smell everything. When I get a gift, it's the first thing I do, even if it's supposed to be odorless.

I, too, research any and everything. The guys at work joke with me regarding my extensive useless knowledge. I tend to pick up movie quotes with just a word or two.... I'm not even a "movie guy" so to speak. The other day my buddy said, "clever girl!"

Any of you know the movie?

Lastly, "space" and WWII. I tend to read a lot of books on both. Absolutely fascinates me

Jurassic Park!! I was shooting my brother with a NERF gun the other day when my girlfriend came around the corner and shot me...didn't even know she was there and I said that exact line!!! Haha!!!

You reminded me! Vinyls! Love my vinyl records - again the collection is nowhere near the size I would like it to be but I am working on it - I like the hard to come by and limited edition ones with pictures/odd colours!

YES!!! Why do we know this Sh....???

Awesome that you did, though : )

If you ever have any vinyl recommendations, let me know. I tend to seek out old blues, R&B, and jazz albums. But reggae, punk rock, hell anything... Even if it's just one random song on an album, I love it!

It sounds like our minds work in similar ways! I retain so much weird stuff - good for pub quizzes though!!

Most of my vinyls are heavy metal albums. I have white vinyls, clear vinyls with blood spatter effects and a couple of limited edition box collections. The thing is - as much as they are a collection - on the odd occasion they do get played - I've always preferred the clarity and sounds of music from a vinyl over digital music!

That movie blew my mind. Just having a lifelike image of dinosaurs was amazing!

At work I have a collection of ammusing or famous names on business cards and work IDs, for example: Ahmed Bank, Hung Lo, Wayne Carr, Sean Lamb, Tan Kok, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Ray Allen etc.. a few people know I have it so when they come across new ones they send them my way.

Cacti. I collect cacti. Have done so since I was 15 years old. Some of them I've had for 25 years!

I honestly have never told any of my mates. I don't go out of my way to hide it either. Everyone assumes they're my wife's interest.

I used to collect comic books, but that now evolved into collecting comic book statues. At last count, I have over 50, but no space to display them all.... yet.

The latest one that got delivered the other day (pardon the crappy pic):

Well, I can see that FOH is truly a community of people with varied interests. I've photographed most of my pins and posted them up on Collectors Weekly, a site for, well, collectors of stuff. Also, there are interesting lead articles and interviews. If you are so inclined, you can find my pins here: WIlkey's Bowling Pins.
