Recently it manifested in the need to own a batman suit. Wore it once so far. Towns kids loved it but I felt awkward

One of my missus quirks is buying meat from the local Woolworth's if it has an interesting price on it.

For example: she came home with a packet of mince yesterday because it has a price of $18.18.

We have plenty of meat in the freezer but she couldn't walk past this one...

Tied for first place there, guys. I can't stop giggling at these two

People are curious creatures. Take myself for example. A perfectly reasonable middle aged man, yet I recently became fascinated with bowling pins. I bought four new pins and am looking for a few more.

Have you considered African cichlids? Everyone needs cichlids

Good point. But then I'd need a bowling ball and I am not in the least bit fascinated by bowling balls...yet. Wilkey

Admittedly I was pretty manic with laughter during the whole ordering and delivery process.. But yeah I just felt kinda wearing it. Going to get a mask and Cape too eventually just incase the need to save gotham arises.

Not sure what bought it on, I'm not a huge marvel fan. Like the movie etc but I don't own any figurines etc. Been the most self admitted random thing so far.

I collect my cigar bands and boxes too. I got all nostalgic at one stage and bought the master sword and shield from my favourite childhood videogame Zelda.. Any parts I remove off a bike or damage in an accident I either keep in a box or hang around the shed..

Military bike Ive now amassed everything I need for a complete military issue restoration. Some things I have two of because I wasn't sure which was better quality. Also have a mannequin I've called frank who ive dressed in the full uniform, have the model machine gun proper metal model. Some dress pieces for bike..

Bought a restored 40era fuel bowser because it was BP..I like BP..it's British..and therefore was a logical match to a 40s BSA I have..

Etc.. Etc..

Dude, I want one

You're not the guy in the batman suit in that urban legend are you?

I'm a huge nostalgia guy too. Looking for old tennis racquets I used to play with and buying multiple racquets.

Andrew. Can tell me two things:

1 does it come in extra large short?

2 where can I order?

Serious curious! Well done.

Yep. You're definitely not a Marvel fan, seeing as Batman is DC.... lol3.gif

But the outfit is cool, so keep on rocking!

Nah I've only warn it once in public for around half an hour. Once I've got a mask I might try causing a stir occasionally.

I think I originally found out about the guys making them years ago when somebody suggested I buy a storm trooper one. About 8 months ago I woke up and just knew what I had to do, I had to be Batman.

Wilkey I cannot help but get sucked into a thread that you write my brother!

I hate be sacrilegious, but bowling pins are a lot of fun to shoot at. I shot bowling pit competitions for years. A 1911 in 45ACP or a Smith 645 (also 45ACP or 45 Autorim) were my choices. They actually used to make (perhaps still do) bullets called pin grabbers with teeth on them that would (in theory) grab the pin and take it off the table. I am sure I have some around here somewhere!!!

In shooting pins, you cannot just knock them down. You have to clear them from the table! Just an FYI!!!

I don't have too many deliberate collections. BUT I am a pack rat. I cannot seem to throw away anything! A few years ago I brought home some unistrut pipe clamps. I actually threw them away about 6 months ago and guess what. I need a few now!!! I will never do that again!!! -LOL

I have difficulty disposing of items of once held value. I cannot get rid of my old Nikon film camera, or the old, titanium Nikon digital camera that I first bought. I just cannot part with them. They are largely junk in my world today, but I keep them anyway!

So to come full circle, I cannot afford more junk, just for the sake of junk! I have tons of it already! I have everything from Erlenmeyer flasks, about 5 lbs. of mercury, pistons from P-51 mustangs, old saw blades, hand made square nails and even some Olin skis from the '80's…

I have Middle Earth lead figurines that I would war-game with before there were such things as video games…!!! I have the tool box I made in metal shop some 35 years ago… a stock high-rise aluminum manifold from a big block Chevy and probably the stock lug nuts for my 70 SS El Camino!

On the day that I chucked the pipe clamps, I probably disposed of 60 lbs of nuts and bolts!!! I might have cried that day… -LOL

Today if I am gonna' bring something home, something else has gotta' leave…

Great thread! -R

I have a strange obsession with theorhetical physics. I can sit down and read a book on the subject like its a good novel. Give me string theory, black holes, multiple dimensions what have you all are fascinating.

and even some Olin skis from the '80's…

Ah - you've reminded me. I haven't thrown out a pair of skis for 24 years; not entirely sure why, but I think each pair represents great memories, especially the pairs I used when I used to work seasons in the Alps. From memory, there are about 20 or so pairs gathering dust in a cupboard. Bindings too, bags and bags of them, especially the ones I used to scavenge from the dump in Zermatt - I'm still trying to find a match for that single Marker (1980s) Rotamat that I found there.

Perhaps not so surprisingly, I don't feel the same about old ski boots... no.gif

…oh yeah! I am sure I have a pair of Burt retractable ski bindings around here somewhere!!! -LOL

Blimey, legendary stuff. I haven't ever seen a set in person (I'm not sure they ever made it to Europe), but a very interesting concept. Blow my mind and tell me you have a pair of Spademans somewhere around the place... biggrin.png

The '70s were quite a weird time of innovation for skiing, in retrospect.

Vinyl Records. I'm partial to jazz from the 50's as well as classical music. It got a bit obsessive for a while, especially when trying to find an original LP in excellent condition. It's also a challenge to maintain a rig that can play LP's these days. I've been wondering if anyone just listens to music any more. It always seems to be background music to some other activity.

What does tchotchkes mean and or refer to...?

Nick-nacks. Little goofy things that don't really mean anything, but people always have empty shelf space that needs to be filled with something. :)

Like glass gnome statues or spark plugs or pens from hotel rooms.

Edited opening post to add a photo of my growing bowling pin collection.

Wilkey

Nice collection, sir.

Curious, are there any bowling pin collector forums out there? Seems like there are for just about every other hobby or interest....

If there are, I have not yet found them. In fact, there's precious little about bowling pins overall except in the context of other bowling paraphernalia. There are professional forums for alley operators and those in the biz, but I've only ever seen a photo of one other collection besides mine. Yeah, I was surprised too.

Orchids .Bought the wife one in 2006.Then a few more that year.

It's 2014,we have 3000 or so orchids, and a big (18 x 36) greenhouse,and a second smaller greenhouse for potting and seedlings.

When we see a new cross we buy a flask (usually 25 to 50 babies) and rationalize it, saying we will sell a few.

Never happens...........

I collect Cuban cigars. But then I burn them, so go figure. rotfl.gif

I have kept just about every band from every cigar I've ever smoked. I even keep the bands from the cigars I have given to friends to smoke. I don't have any idea what I'm going to do with all those bands. I also have kept every empty CC box I've ever bought, which is not all that many so far, but going forward this is going to be a problem.
