for those that have been, what are the prices at the Tel Aviv airport store like? My parents will be travelling through there in the next couple of weeks. I'm not seeking out anything special but if the prices are good I'll get them to pick up some boxes. Although if prices are similar to Czar, my thought is why bother, just buy from Czar & get what I want.

Prices are not very good. They usually have a deal buy 3 get a 4th free. They have some nice older and htf stuff usually and a very good selection, but tell your parents to inspect carefully for mold and/or beetles. Very rampant!

Good Thought..........Now run with it............

I was there in 2009. A box of Cohiba Siglo I was $250. Buy 3 boxes, get the 4th free (lowest priced box). With that, prices are not bad. Selection is better than average.

I travel through there often and suggest sticking with Rob, mostly since you would be relying on your patents to pick a good box. No doubt there is some quality stock, even decent aged stock; but, the price quality ratio is generally better here, especially since you are basically buying semi-blind. If you had the opportunity to inspect yourself, you can certainly some great stuff. Why chance it? (Unless, of course, your parents are also cigar enthusiasts).

If you are looking for the RA regional from a few years back, i would suggest that you ask them to grab a 5er at either the LCDH in the David Intercontinental (aka the Inca Bar) or Brill Cigars in Tel Aviv. They will be over priced; but, both shops take good care of their stock. The regionals I have seen in the airport have all been lackluster.

That RA regional was one of the top 3 cigars I have ever smoked. GLORIOUS cigar in a vitola that I normally do not care for at all.. Excited to see how they have changed over the years...The shop in the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv is also the absolute best shop I have ever been to in my life. the owner is such a genuine, warm, good, man that it takes the sting of the hefty tax caused price tag completely out.

I agree with all the above. The Tel Aviv airport is extremely expensive and when you compare it to the czars, you get better pricing for better quality. Nice to hear you guys opinion on inca bar and brill cigars...I definitely have to check them out.

Had a link pm'd to me with the prices, almost as bad as Canada. Looks like I'll just get my parents to pick me up a keffiyeh. Thanks everyone.

I believe the shop in the Dan is called Freddie's. I have not been back since it opened a few years back. The owner was a good guy, and has a fair bit of experience working in various LCDH in Europe. At the time he was having trouble maintaining steady humidity the walkin, especially upon reopening every Sunday. Hopefully, it has all been worked out.

The Inca/LCDH is a no brainier for me, as I usually stay at the David. Drinks are ridiculously expensive. If you are not on an expense account, stick to ordering beer or water. Either way, the bartenders make it worth it the extra money. They will happily keep the shop opened until the last guest is ready to go, which is often after sunrise. Cigar prices are the same as Brill and Freddie's and everything is well kept. Stock varies; but, if there is something you are looking for they will call Davidus (regional importer) and have it delivered often that same night. Highly recommended.

I am scheduled to be there in about ten days. Looking forward to it.

Correct. It is Freddie. Small shop, small humidor, but Freddie is extremely knowledgeable and always treated me and the lady as if we were guests in his house. Just a true gentleman.

FYI, I was at the duty-free in the Tel Aviv airport a couple weeks ago and they are very well stocked at the moment. It looks like prices may have been raised; but, so has the quality of the stock. They had several boxes of the RA regional, which were all top quality. While I still think quality is better here at FOH (and am certain that prices are better), those passing through may want to take a look to see if anything special lying around.
