Fosgate Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Could Strassman be considered an OZ comedian even though he is from LA his shows are virtually all in OZ?
AussieCanuck Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Love this battle with a hecklerIf you watch the long version of that video you'll see it's part of the show. She was an actor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jat Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Yeah.... Chris Lilley. Got a Logie recently for something, God know why. For the non Aussies, a Logie is a suppository awarded to 'popular' TV presonalities. Chris is like Dame Edna, another 'icon' I just don't get. As forJim Jefferies, he's nothing here, so that should say something of his comedic appeal. Aussie comedy is generally very dry, understated, larconic. I'd say similar to Scotish humour rather than English, which adors Dame Edna and Benny Hill. Banter is pretty strong in Aussie humour and of course sledging is an art form. No it has nothing to do with snow and all to do with sporting competition. I submit the following: . Viv Richards & Greg Thomas. In a county match in England, Thomas was bowling to Richards and getting a few to whizz past the bat. After Richards played and missed another one, Thomas said: "It's red, it's round. Now ****en hit it!". This obviously angered Richards who proceeded to hit the next ball out of the ground. Richards: "You know what it looks like now go and get it." Cheers, JAT
jat Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Ha, no Australians involved there, second submission: 13. Merv Hughes & Viv Richards.During a test match in Jamaica, Hughes continued to stare at Richards after each delivery. He never spoke a word but sure enough after every delivery there was a stare. Viv Richards: "Don't you be staring at me, man. This is my island, my culture. And in my culture we just bowl". Hughes replied with a ripper : "In my culture we just say **** off".
MrDowse Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I'd say similar to Scotish humour rather than English, which adors Dame Edna and Benny Hill. The entire pantheon of English comedy from Shakespeare through to Monty Python reduced to a crap 1970s TV show and an Aussie drag act. What a crock.
rsanz Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 As a Kiwi I'm obliged to dislike anything Aussie... but some of it is so good I cant. A partial list... Movies; The Castle Kenny Death in Brunswick* TV; Frontline* The Games* *slightly biases by 'Kiwis' in prominent roles.

Cheers, JAT was going to say, thought thomas was welsh. but thought that exchange was with merv?
Ken Gargett Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 glad the game got mentioned. also dame edna, but no way can edna be dismissed as a drag act. completely misses the point. dame edna at his/her best was brilliant. and no one dealt with hecklers better. but i still say - norman gunston!
coblos Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Interesting views on Australian Comedy. I'm a bit younger than Ken and remember having a good laugh when he was suprised Jay Z had more No.1 Albums than Springstein, but this time I'm with him, never heard of Jim Jefferies prior to reading this thread. Chris Lilley I know, but I don't think he is funny. Carl Baron is my favourite Australian stand up comedian.
Bill Hayes Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Just goes to show you that humour is very subjective. I found Chris Lilley funny in Summer Heights High and I like his parody of the private school girl. Not saying it's the greatest humour ever or anything like that but I found it entertaining. But I hated his Angry Boys series.
