earthson Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I've owned 2 Palios before and now using a Xi3 -The return/exchange process is smoother for Xikar. Palio I had to go through 5 phone calls over a month to settle the exchange process. See, my palio a few years ago up and popped apart one day when I went to use it to make a cut. The handles came apart and both blades went flying across the room. My email to Palio was answered quickly and they immediately sent me another one with a shipping label so I could return the broken one free of charge. Plus, if you go into any store that sells Palio, they are supposed to have a no-questions-asked policy of replacement. Mind you, I clean mine every few months with some isopropyl to get all the tobacco gunk off (like from when I have to re-cut a stick after it's already going).
dubleuhb Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I looked through the palio website, and they really only have the one format, which I'm not thrilled with. I lean towards function over form here, but I wouldn't mind a bit of both. Is this their entire offering? http://www.paliocutter.com/products.htm If it ain't broke don't fix it.
khenry0105 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Admittedly, I'm in love with the Dupont Maxijet, which matches my handy torch lighter. http://www.amazon.com/S-T-Dupont-Maxijet-Cutter-Cigar/dp/B006WC7CLA Obnoxious price. Still, I'm not totally opposed to ruthlessly murdering $200 in honor of cutting my stogies! Great comments, keep 'em coming! I have this Dupont cutter in the black to match my Ligne 2 lighter - it's very nice and provides a great cut. That said, I haven't used it in a couple years - find myself grabbing cigar scissors instead. Love the added control of scissors.
canadianbeaver Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I have Xikar cutters in a couple of different colours. I have very fancy lighters but I just got a Xikar lighter for travel. Then I found this. http://xikar.com/files/XIKAR%20Consumer%20Return%20Form.pdf If you ever have a problem with a Xikar product, you just fill out the form, send the thing in and they send you a new one.
MostlyHarmless Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I have the Palio and it gets the job done because it's extremely sharp and has a robust built quality. That beeing said, i have to agree that there are cutter out there which look much nicer. @SaintLuis, if you look at this site, you can find one more, but it's just one format and 5 colour options. http://heartfeltindustries.com/products.asp?cat=Palio
cigardoc Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If you are looking for something a little high end, you should check out Dupont
Skyfall Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 My lotus double guillotine is too dull to keep using, so I'm in the market for a new one. I prefer the old school straight cut, so while I'm not opposed to options that perform punch as well, that's what I'll be using most of the time. I have a double guillotine xicar xi2 that's sort of my old standby, but I think I'd like something higher end. I liked my buddies xi3 - felt nice and heavy and had a nice snap to it. So I thought I'd toss up my decision to the mob. What are you guys using that you love, and think I should buy? Saint Why don't you just sharpen it?
TM-US Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Another vote for Xikar. I use the very thin stainless Xikar cutter that is easily pocketable. Although I usually use a punch, this cutter has cut several boxes worth of cigars and no dullness. I like that Xikar will replace my cutter, no questions asked, at my local shop.
Skyfall Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Spend $7.00 on one of these and just sharpen the one you have.
rmill3r Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 With out a doubt, Cuban Crafters Perfect Cigar Cutter: http://www.cubancrafters.com/cuban-crafters-perfect-cigar-cutters-cuts-the-exact-amount-off-all-ring-sizes/ No matter what, you will always get a perfect, clean cut. ALWAYS. If you're cutting something sort of torpedo shaped or with any sort of odd-shaped head, though, it could be difficult.
sheppsea Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I have a Xikar Xi2, and I am not all that thrilled with it. It leaves a raised ridge of tobacco on the cut face that look like it was pinched rather than cut cleanly. The cutter is sort of like the xikar lighters I have.. They work, but I think there are better options out there. I wouldn't spend more on a higher end xikar based on my experience with this one. Just out of curiosity how did you cut the cigar?I always used to lay the cutter on its back on a flat surface when using it (which apparently cuts off the perfect amount of the cap), and this always resulted in a ridge forming, but I have started cutting it upright in my hand now, which results in a clean and straight cut I love my Xikar Xi1, which also comes with a lifetime warranty, so would definitely recommend that. I have had it for about a year now and have never had any problems . I am looking to get a Palio for a little variety though I also have the V-Cutter, which works really well, I just prefer a straight cut.
