stogieluver Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Seeing a post in another thread where someone said he always thought the saying was "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes" got me to thinking about some funny misinterpretations of song lyrics and the like. My sister in law always thought Credence Clearwater Revival was singing "there's a bathroom on the right" instead of "there's a bad moon on the rise". 2

Ken Gargett Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 check out this site. http://www.kissthisguy.com thousands of them. some are brilliant. named kiss this guy as apparently hendrix' 'kiss the sky' is one of the most mistaken of all. i remember when i was travelling in afriica many years ago with some sealbasher friends, and they kept asking who was 'fat canada heywood' and why didn't that aussie band like him/her/whoever. i had no idea what they meant until finally i twigged. it was that old aussie crawl song - 'she don't like that kind of behaviour'.
MrDowse Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Misheard lyrics like this are actually known as 'Mondegreens'. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen They were the source of a great series of TV ads in the UK during the 80s. Wonder how many of our uk members can remember this one? http://youtu.be/mxELSzay2lc Louie Louie by the kingsmen has to be I candidate for the most misheard lyric ever. I still have no clue what they are singing about to this day! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 1
DWC Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 "Hold me close oh Tony Danza"... From Elton John's Tiny Dancer. Always cracks me up.
PapaDisco Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 "The proof is in the pudding" rather than "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." and my own personal contribution: "Reverend Bluejeans" rather than "Forever in blue jeans" from the Neal Diamond song. Yeah I know, go ahead and say it . . . I can be a bit slow . . .
Monteandmakers Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 A friend of mine thought "I'll never be your beast of burden" was "I'll never leave your pizza burning". He said he never understood why they would make a song about that.
mncz Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 "Hold me close oh Tony Danza"... From Elton John's Tiny Dancer. Always cracks me up. Haha! I was going to post Tiny Dancer, too, but a different misinterpretation... When I was a young kid (pre-teenage years) I used to think Elton was singing, "Hold me close, I'm tryin'a dance here..."

Ryan Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 'Reverend Blue Jeans' rather than 'Forever in Blue Jeans', Neil Diamond. I still think it's Reverend. Just saw PapaDisco beat me to it. We think alike!
ogus Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 pearl jam yellow ledbetter Eddie Vedder does not even know the lyrics but this may be king https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icViP-RZDy4
Fuzz Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Herman's Hermits - "She's a must to avoid, a complete impossibility...", often misquoted as, "She's a muscular boy, a complete impossibility..."
khamy Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Hmm Probably not many Mariah Carey Fans here but i use to think 'One Sweet Day' was sung as Once we're dead'

Ken to be fair to your Canadian mates, not even Aussies could understand James Reyne! 1
