Hi all, someone just sent me what I believe to be a fake Cohiba Maduro 5. This thing is darker than most nc maduros and doesn't even taste cuban. I'm not very experienced with this marca and any opinions or input about this cigar would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have some time in the warehouse next week. How about I showcase the diversity of Maduro 5 wrappers.

I wouldn't worry. In my experiences with Cohiba Maduros, a fake may taste better than the real thing...

I'm sorry, I really didn't want to poke at anybody here. I just think people need to be careful about issuing unqualified, definitive assessments of authenticity of a single cigar based upon photogra

The band looks good.

I'd have to agree. The Maduro line has a slightly different font on the "Cohiba"

Is it me or does that cigar not have a triple cap. Other than that the band looks good but the cigar itself isn't very pretty.

The cigar looks fine, except I can't tell if there's a triple cap or not. What makes you think this person would send you a fake cuban cigar?

I don't think he would purposely send me a fake because he's a good friend of mine. It's just that it doesn't have any of the flavour profiles of a cuban cigar. To be honest, it tastes more like a non cuban.

The few genios I have had are not that dark. Could be the lighting. Nothing really stands out but my spider sense goes off looking at it.

The colour was bothering me also. It's not the lighting, it is that dark.

I had some 2008 and 2009. Both were darker than a standard Cohiba but nothing close to that dark. Both years were excellent. A top 5 cigar of all time for me. A little maduro sweetness to compliment the Cohiba barnyard flavor. Should not taste like an NC at all. Unless it is just plain young. Then it could taste 'dirty' like a NC.

It may be me but don't see the triple cap

I think it's the old switcharo pull the band of and place it on a NC

No triple cap isn't a good sign...

The wrapper does look a bit rough and dark, but that's always hard for me to evaluate in an online photo.

Apart from the band, I'd say suspect.

What color was the ash? Got a photo of that? If it tastes NC, then you'll likely see a much lighter/whiter ash.

Doesn't look like a triple cap and it is darker then any I have had by far. Ugly looking wrapper, looks like an NC to me but with some of the garbage that comes out of Cuba who knows. Band seems ok.

Looks just like mine (from LCHD), the wrappers are rough on these cigars and the bands on mine are about the same. Mine are also very dark.

I cant say if its real or not, but if any Cuban cigar is close to an NC, its these, in both look and taste!.

this may be a joke, but i would agree partially on it.

at this moment, if you enjoy the stick, who cares!? :D Just make sure you don't jot down notes saying it's a cohiba. honestly, it just comes down to whether you enjoy it or whether you can get more or not :)

IMO that is what the Maduro line is.. Cuba's cigar for the NC market.

Personally I'm not into them.

Thats by far the darkest cohiba maduro i have ever seen.

I have purchased many Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios singles in my travels as I was a big fan of the line when it was released.. The fact that this particular cigar is darker than others should not draw much of a flag. I have had Genios from LCDH's that have been this dark or even darker.. I have a box from 2011 I believe (have to check the code), that are also. Dry close to this color.
