StingMeadery Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I have had one in my humidor for some time and sparked it up last week. To be honest right from the first draw the flavour just didn't sit well with me and apart from one point just before halfway i couldn't wait to finish it. In fact I nearly stubbed it out and lit up a Cohiba just to put things right in the world...but manned up and finished it hoping for an improvement that never came. Just wondering what others thought of this stick? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mk05 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 It's not exactly Cuaba is it? And for an '08 EL, it sure is available everywhere. Jury seems to have spoken already.
Maplepie Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 i've found that most people have enjoyed them despite hating Cuaba's guts. wouldn't have minded seeing an actual perfecto LE, though........ some said it was better than the reserva jar, actually. and those are running up 45 each now!
Smallclub Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I've found it very good, but again I'm not a Cuaba hater (I have had first class Divinos, and good Salomones and Exclusivos). I'd have bought more if it weren't so pricey in Europe…
Maplepie Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'd have bought more if it weren't so pricey in Europe… if they weren't so pricey. full stop! i mean why get these when the Hoyo LE11s were available for 75USD in Cuba and 130USD in other places.....
CUBANO Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'd love a box of generosos Me too, also the Divinos.
CaptainQuintero Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Genuinely enjoy them still. Rich, raisins and coffee. Would love to see the blend used again at some point.
Guest rob Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Mine have all been very very oily, and require a good amount of time dry boxing before lighting. They have an asbestos sheet for a wrapper! Good cigar when prepped properly though.... Actually, I would say its a great smoke.

Thanks Rob, great feedback.I think mine may have been over humidified in my travel case and I agree re: the wrapper as it was the most heinous burn in any cigar I have ever had, took four major touch ups to keep it smokeable LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fuzz Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Smoked one 2 weeks ago. Will have to agree with Rob, the wrapper was a pain to keep lit. But the flavour profile was quite enjoyable. A light to medium bodied cigar, nice touches of pepper (initial third only), coffee and creamy sweetness. Would've nubbed it, but it got harsh in the last inch or two.
westg Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Mine have been really nice, and I don't mind Cuaba in general, never had any construction problems either.
liuzzi Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 2008 EL which is still widely available, I guess that speaks for itself. I'd rather have a regular production Divino for the fraction of the price.
oliverdst Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 2008 EL which is still widely available, I guess that speaks for itself. I'd rather have a regular production Divino for the fraction of the price. Totally diferent profiles.
Ken Gargett Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 i am a very long way from cuaba's biggest fan - they discontinue punch super section 2's and continue to produce those nasty little worm droppings! but i liked the EL. have not seen one for a while but they were good when they were released. it was during one of our trips - the ones we smoked there and brought home - and so i sometimes wonder if perhaps we saw the pick of the litter, so to speak. but i have never seen one i didn't enjoy. something that can't be said about any other cuaba.
CaptainQuintero Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 2008 EL which is still widely available, I guess that speaks for itself. 2008 EL Upmann mag 48 are still widely available though, they are generally extremely well received.
Lotusguy Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 2008 EL Upmann mag 48 are still widely available though, they are generally extremely well received. Not by me 1
Knopper Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 last saturday I have had my first but not last.Construction was good and the taste was medium, salty and herbs .Allso I am not the cuaba guy but this cigar was very good for me
jrb5783 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I thought they were good. Def wouldn't buy more at $18+ a piece
CaptainQuintero Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I grabbed a box a couple of years ago when they were cheaper than monte and dip 2. Great value at that price imo
Troels Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Liked it a lot (and didnt like the mag 48s i've had)
BradNC Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I've got a couple of Cuaba LEs and personally I've enjoyed them. The peppery smell is the most intense I've ever sampled in any cigar. Just different I suppose. 1
mk05 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 2008 EL Upmann mag 48 are still widely available though, they are generally extremely well received. Here's something to think about...The Mag 48's rise in popularity had a negative correlation to its recent price decrease towards the low $200 category. Coincidence? I suspect that at the approaching sub $200 tier pricing (where it belongs), there will be unstoppable rave reviews. Need more examples? How about PL Robusto's? They were received poorly, continued as such until it started its descent towards $260 category, at which point they were hoarded and heralded like the second coming. The market does not lie. People perceive and identify value more alike than you would think. I'll even place a prediction for you: SLR Pacificos. A very good cigar now, but other things must be had first at that price tier. Give the Pacificos a couple years to start its slide down towards the mid $200 category, and watch the fireworks.
