Charltonc Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Monte petit tubos and bolivar royal coronas, just because I like my cigars round.
Weeklystogie Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I love three packs of tubos for trying new cigars. It's a perfect sample size and the tubos are great pocket sized carrying cases if I end up getting a box. From my limited sample size the consistency has been about the same for me. 1
nikesupremedunk Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I'm a cheapass so I have never bought a tubo cigar but the couple that I were gifted smelled amazing when you open them. Especially a monte with 10 years on it. I'm doing a little experiment with a used tubo. I put a Coro in it last year when I bought a box. Going to compare them in 5+ years. Oh, and I should definitely pick up some tubos in the future, especially the siglo line.
hebbe72 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Never experienced any differences between tubed and non-tubed cigars. Beside the price then
CanuckSARTech Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I've found that 2008-2011 tubos of Mag 46 have been leaps and bounds ahead of their regular-boxed brethren. Fairly similar with 2009 onwards with Cohiba Siglo IV's. Aside from that, it's pretty much a wash or a slight edge to boxed product. Stellar boxes of Partagas SDN4 are definitely better than the always-average-seeming tubed versions.
Rye Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I've had windbag BRC's both tuned and not. Man, am I ever developing a hatred toward a cigar I really wanted to like. Sig5&6 have been great tubed, where it leans toward non-tubed Sig2 for me. P2 have been great out of the can, where I prefer my D4's boxed. Monte tubos are hit and miss, but no real boxed counterpart to compare with. I am neutral I guess, but love having a few tubos around to reuse when appropriate.
SaintLuis Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Here's a box of BRC tubos I just got after I opened them all up and lined them up. Interesting color variation. 1
Pedro2486 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Here's a box of BRC tubos I just got after I opened them all up and lined them up. Interesting color variation. I'd be interested to see the difference in flavours between the lighter and darker wrappers
SaintLuis Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm interested too. May '12 box, so after they acclimate, I'll be digging right in. That guy 4th from the right will probably be my first target. Nice and dark. All the wrappers are oily and gorgeous though - One of the prettier boxes I've got recently. Picture doesn't do them justice.
riderpride Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I've found there's generally no difference; the only exception being a box of Mag 46s from 200901. Of the 15, 7 were plugged, 4 were 'fuzzy' and plugged, and the remaining 4 were fantastic.
Habana Mike Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Here's a box of BRC tubos I just got after I opened them all up and lined them up. Interesting color variation. Nice little line of soldiers.....enjoy!
RagingPorkBun Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 While I do like tubos for the aesthetics, I've found that there's really not much difference between those and the non-tubo release after the non-tubos have had time to acclimate in the humidor.
godpheonix Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 my RyJ churchill tubos are amazing! more consistent and the flavors as well. better flavor and quite different, especially with some age.
vinnyvega Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Punch Monarcas in a tubo from 1998 are a masterpiece!!! In my top 5, And yes, I do believe there is a difference especially long term aging. 1
CQloh Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 personally i find tubes inconsistent and highly confusing. I've had really good and really ordinary Partagas D4s come out of a tube. But given that most of them came from a duty free shop from the airport i would question the conditions they were kept in. I suppose if they were treated properly, there shouldn't really be any different between an aluminium tube and a cedar box. Perhaps this calls for an experiment?
TM-US Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I usually prefer cigars that are not in turbos, but the Punch Punch is one that is consistently good in turbos, but the dress boxes are hit or miss. 1
Stogiedude3 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 The partagas tubos i have enjoyed were excellent. Not sure they were much different than the nons though? Both very enjoyable.
subport Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I also have good luck with psd4 tubos. Honestly my highest rated psd4 came from tubo. It means really nothing. I truly think they are as consistent as boxes. You can get psp or you can get cr@p
ptrthgr8 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Just got a 25er box of RyJ Churchills in tubes delivered yesterday. Smoked one and it was pretty darned good. It's been a while since I've had one, boxed or tubed, so it's hard to compare... but it was a great cigar and the tubes sure are easier to stuff in the cabinet than the massive box itself. Cheers, Greg Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

Cheers, Greg Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk I picked up some 13 RyJ Churchill tubes also. I have to agree that it was excellent. Might possibly be the best 2013 I've smoked, but honestly have not smoked that much 2013 so it was the best Churchill I've smoked this year.Mike
JHands Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I had a psd4 and epi2 out of tubes and they were the best of each i have ever had Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
tippexx Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Tubes. Though some of that judgement might just be me imagining a significant difference. Not so with the Monte Tubos though, it can knock spots off just about everything!
Pixa Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Partagas Culebras tubos are probably my favoriteNever seen one of them that has to be one big tube.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nikonNUT Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I don't have many tubes but they all seem to be very consistent. All made of aluminum, paint shades match exactly, finishes are similar across the... Wait, did you mean the cigars? I'm sorry. I'm an ass and couldn't help myself
