Rufio Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Has anyone had smoked any of these? Been having trouble finding definitive information about them. Thanks!
Fshaw Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 They're a house blend, not sure who the actual roller is but I don't think it's any of the big boys and girls. Have a few boxes, some good some meh.
polarbear Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Below is the explaination I was given when asked about them a while back The flying pig roll and blend is all done by the one man- Carlos Valdez, very famous Master Torcedor in Cuba, they are in very limited supply so would doubt they are the same blend I've got around 15 in my humi aging away. I tried one when I was in Dublin back in 2012 and as soon as I finished it went back and bought more. I enjoy them alot. I'm curious to see how they develop over time
almudawi Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Had the flying pig and lanceros last November. Enjoyed them both. However, I've been told that they were rolled by Carlos Fernandez. Who is master roller from Cuba who became famous recently for his custom rolls.
Ryan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I know the shop and I've seen some of the cigars, I haven't seen the flying pigs. The ones I've seen look good, I haven't smoked one but they certainly look like Cuban wrappers. I have heard the rollers' names mentioned. I do know that there are rollers who have got in trouble in the past for this kind of thing, i.e. being seen to profit outside of the Habanos "umbrella". It's probably in their best interest not to mention their names explicitly on this thread. Would people mind editing them down to at least initials?.. I meant to go see one of those rollers in Havana to find out what the score was, that is, if he's comfortable with his name being used n this way but, in the end, didn't get a chance. Custom rolls can be great, when you get them in Cuba or from a travelling roller and you get a couple off the bench, in those cases they are something a little bit special, that's all. I've no beef at all with this retailer, it's great that there are specialist cigars shops in my town, the more the better, but when you buy custom rolls off the web, any website, unless you are very comfortable with the producer/seller, how do you really know what you're getting? Unless you get to Cuba one day, see a roller working in a shop or can buy custom rolls from a retailer you know well, stick with what you know to be what it says on the box. Otherwise you'll always be questioning your purchases.

I have dealt with this shop minimally, only meeting the owner while I was there and corresponding with them through email the last week or so. I will hold off for looking for any custom rolls until I learn some more. Too bad I did not know you were an Ireland local! It would have been nice to meet up and share a smoke.

Ryan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Next time, absolutely get in touch! Always good to meet up for a smoke.
mk05 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Had the flying pig and lanceros last November. Enjoyed them both. However, I've been told that they were rolled by XXX...who became famous recently for his custom rolls. Easy smoking cigars but doubt the roller rolls all of those cigars...just 2cc. Agree, per numerous past threads advising the same.
ErikB Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Bought a custom in Dublin once , wanted to smoke it so badly when late at night returned to my hotel room , but it was no-smoking... So I opened a window and thoroughly enjoyed the cigar , one of the best ever... Thought I'd gotten away with it too ...but walking to breakfast next morning the whole hotel smelled of cigar smoke.... 1
