The wrapper makes up little of the flavor (Hamlet said its 5-10% of flavor.) Good filler is what matters, at least in my opinion.

Colorado Colorado Maduro Aesthetically like the darker wrappers

Oscuro, of course, being Spanish for "dipped in dye."

I'm with the majority here as well. To me, there's something majestic about the specific color of a Colorado Claro wrapper on a Cohiba..I have a really nice box of CoRo that have the oilyish golden brown hue almost.. They just look and smell very attracting. That's ideal for me..

The best cigars I have smoked were claro to colorado claro. My experience has been that the darker the wrapper the more difficult it is to keep it lit. The OR BHK were claro and so are the book release cigars. Obviously blend has an enormous part to play in the quality of a cigar. However, I have noticed that the wrappers HSA seems to lean towards on the super high end sticks are very thin and claro to colorado claro in color. This doesn't mean I haven't smoked great cigars on the darker side of colorado maduro, but if I had my choice I would pick a nice velvety claro - colorado claro wrapper with a wonderful sheen over anything else.

Could not say it better!

Like Orion , I prefer a colorado claro wrapper,,,,,,,,darker than claro, lighter than colorado with no reddish hue,or an oily mottled buckskin and colorado maduro wrapper.

I have found these to be my favorites, and would pick these first choice......

I do not see these often....

Well if the maduro is done right (eg. Cohiba EL 2006, Montecristo Robusto EL, 1966, Maduro 5 lineup), it's my favorite. I'm not partial to any of the others in particular, though colorado wrappers are most aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.

Depends on the cigar. For example, the best PSD4s I've had have been claro to Colorado claro, the best des dieux I've had have been double claro, the best hdm petit robustos I've had have been Colorado maduro.

Think it's more psychological than anything, for me anyway.

As I said to Hammy years ago, put a Genios wrapper on a Siglo VI and tell me the same lol3.gif

What occurs is the Siglo VI tastes like a Genios. The Genios tastes like a Siglo VI

Hamlet comes from the angle that the wrapper influence is proportional to the tobacco as a rough % of the cigar.

I come from the angle that if you change the profile of the cigar then it is a significant influence. In the case of the Siglo VI and Genios experiment...total albeit that is an extreme wrapper change.

So at Jose's we were preparing a dish of Ropa Vieja. We were having it simply with a side dish of Moros y Cristianos.

We tasted the Ropa Vieja from the pot and then I put in a small splash of Hennessy. The core Ropa Vieja flavour was there but lifted with the Hennessy. Hennessy was only say 1% of the dish but to me changed it completely.

We all agreed on the change of flavour but disagreed on the subjective amount of change. Is any altering of flavour a 100% change or is it a measurable incremental change on the core flavour? Intelligent people hold differing opinions.

Many an hour we have spent discussing this at Jose's place. Long afternoons/evenings overlooking the river and drinking fine rum and strong coffee. great times ok.gif

The best Monte 4's I've ever smoked all had a Colorado Maduro-ish shade wrapper

That being said, I was gifted an aged Partigas 898 that was so light the wrapper was almost a Double Claro shade but it smoked wonderfully

I had a box of Monte 2 back around 2008 with very dark oily Maduro wrappers that were simply divine. I have not seen Monte 2 with this colour wrapper since.

I have found all my favorites have been Claro to Colorado. I love the light coloured oily or satin textured wrappers.

I've had my share of tasty Colorado-maduro sticks tho!

I agree Claro to Colorado hits my sweet spot as a go to stick.

One of my friends just showed me a near full box of this exact same Monty 2 with the dark Madiuro wrapper he is storing for a friend in his humidor, They still look absolutely stunning but must have glowed with oil when they were fresh :)
