Nedule Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 What should their faces have looked like after playing 70 minutes of pure hockey and then letting the gold slip away? There's no controlling your emotions after playing that type of game and ending up 1st loser. I wish that they could have held their heads up higher because it was one of the best games(indoor, outdoor, men's or women's) of the year. I'm Canadian enough to actually for sorry for them a bit. Was a tight game & the US women played excellent. In most sports, silver & bronze hold a lot of respect, but hockey is one of the sports that in the final it's either gold (1st) or nothing. Hockey Bronze almost has more of a victorious win because they were fighting for all they had just to get a metal.
ptrthgr8 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Wait... the Am having hockey fantasies about these twins! https://www.google.c...7673259;594;415 I live in North Dakota and have attended many UND Fighting Sioux games. This town is about as hockey-mad as any town in Canada. I can tell you right now that women's hockey simply doesn't matter as much. The Fighting Sioux men's team has produced some serious stars (Toews, Oshie, Parise, to name a few) and the games are always sold out and some games, like those against the stupid Gophers in Minnesota, are massive events all weekend. The women's team, on the other hand, literally gives the tickets away for free and they are still never close to a sellout. Even with the Lamoureux twins being the best known names on the team. Highschool boys hockey matters more around here than college women's. So, the point I'm trying to make... come to North Dakota during the college hockey season and I'm pretty sure you can see the twins play live and in person, sitting in awesome seats, for no cost. (Other than getting here, of course.) Cheers, ~ Greg ~
TheLiquidGator Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Greg- Toews, Oshie, Parise. That is quite a lot of serious talent.
jimschn Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Am having hockey fantasies about these twins! https://www.google.c...7673259;594;415 Wow, they're hot.. What a bullshit penalty the one took in OT that was the worst call I've ever seen...
ptrthgr8 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Greg- Toews, Oshie, Parise. That is quite a lot of serious talent. Yeah, those three are the most recent well-known players. Drew Stafford, Mike Commodore, Matt Greene, Matt Smaby, Matt Frattin, Travis Zajac, and some other fairly recent guys all played for the University of North Dakota. I think the most famous Fighting Sioux player still has to be Ed Belfour. When he comes to town the banners come out and ticker tape parades are planned. Pilsner14 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 My friend to the south.........what did you think about todays game????? It would be a lucky sweep. The American women were the better team........and the men were playing great and then came Canada and North American style play. What a crazy game! I had the American men for the day and the tournament. Lost money but proud of the Canadian men!
Laxman Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Two great games two tough losses. Especially the US women. Hats off to Canada.
Rye Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I think the men's final will prove to be a good one. Sweden is very strong and has beat Canada before. They know how. It's up to the Canadian boys to stick to their plan and their coach not to get too crazy with the lines. Our anti-fun government has just posted that all bars are allowed to open at 5am AND serve liquor! Who'd a thunk it??
ptrthgr8 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 My friend to the south.........what did you think about todays game????? It would be a lucky sweep. The American women were the better team........and the men were playing great and then came Canada and North American style play. What a crazy game! I had the American men for the day and the tournament. Lost money but proud of the Canadian men! Today's game was pretty much the story of Jonathan Quick. Were it not for his performance that game would easily have been 6-0. The US team was not consistently able to get traffic in front of Price, was unable to consistently get any shots from inside the perimeter, and had far too many neutral zone turnovers. In short, the US played like crap. The UND Fighting Sioux would have played better without a doubt. The US defenders were stymied by the Canadian cycle in the attacking zone and the forwards were too busy looking for a quick pass out of their zone, rather than dropping back to help the D. I think Team Canada shat their breezers after that game against Latvia and were determined to not underestimate Team USA. Team USA, on the other hand, had only the one challenging game against Team Russia in the round robin. Team USA was rolling with what they had been doing; Team Canada cranked it up to 11. I think that game was over before it started. But in the end, this is the prime example of why I think international hockey is weak. One game means too much. The Stanley Cup is a far greater prize than a gold medal: a team must win several rounds of best-of-7 to claim the NHL title. There is no doubt after such a grind that the best team won, not just the best team on a given day. So here's to the continuation of the NHL season. I hope that the Wings are able to stretch their playoff run to 23 consecutive seasons. Go, WINGS!!!! Cheers, ~ Greg ~
