DuPont Maxi Jet owners

Those of you who have one, does it make a small rattle when you shake it? Just got one from ebay (still not cheap) and suspect it is a knock off copy. Only lights 50% of time. Grrrrr

Yeah, they have a safety part in them that slides up and down so when the lighters upside down they wont light. If you shake them it rattles.

I haven't noticed the rattle sound on mine, haven't shaked it really.

However I have had 2 maxijets (one was lost) and none of them has EVER misfired!.I have bought mine from an official dealer here in Stockholm.

Make sure you use S.T. Dupont butane.

Maxijet does have the "rattle".

Never misfired.

Make sure you purge the fill up valve...

If assuming all mechanical parts are still proper. The one thing might be that the previous owner was using cheap of the cheap butane. The impurities may cause misfire by clogging the lighter.

Try using high quality butane, it might clean the impurities bit by bit, as per experience.

Colibri is good but I would recommend an even higher grade like Vector.

I used to use Colibri, and my colibri lighter started to misfire. I switched to Vector, never misfired again after a while.

My Minijet rattles. I think it's the safety catch.

About 10 years old and still going strong.

Yep, mine rattles too. Have had some problems in the past but using better butane fixed it.

The best lighter I have ever owned. Never an issue in 10+ years. It rattles when you shake it.

How does one clean the nozzle? Tried compressed air, no luck. Two worthless Porsche lighters...

More or less same price. Defi extreme is functionally better. But if you really want the lighter for the colour, then you have the minijet.

Sure, the minijet is tiny and might not fit nicely in your hand, but the maxijet isnt any better compared to the defi extreme.

How did you clean the nozzle? Mine does not light anymore. Gave up on it as I just use my blazer.

I used some canned compressed air (from Computer shop) and gave it a blow direct onto the nozzle after I had bled dry the tank. I have also read that you can use the butane can in the same way.

Great lighters, I have a Maxi and Mini. Both were well worth it. Glad to hear yours seems to be working now that you've cleaned it.
