Skyfall Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I don't know what the big uproar is??? We let rapists, murderers and wife beaters play in the NFL all the time, and praise them. I don't have a problem with the gays playing sports. We've had one as our Quarterback in Dallas for years!!!
El Presidente Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I had as a team mate a *** Rugby prop. One of the toughest and nicest individuals one could meet. He is actually the one who made me question and change my inherent homophobia to that time. 20 + years ago now. 1
Skyfall Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 If someone wants to catch a football or shoot enemies and defend our Country , I don't give a rat's wet *** if they are a *** or not. 1
Laxman Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yes not sure what the big deal is. Just the media trying to make another story out of nothing, which is actually nothing. Maybe 10 or 20 years ago it may have been news.

He is actually the one who made me question and change my inherent homophobia to that time. 20 + years ago now. i read as far as "and change". i suspect the problem is that a lot of players (and fans) are not necessarily seeking membership of mensa and hold fairly archaic views and it is many of these people he will have to deal with on a daily basis. many will not be kind. but good on him.

I don't have a problem with the gays playing sports. We've had one as our Quarterback in Dallas for years!!! just cause the name rhymes.....lol its a big deal because it can severely and negatively affect team chemistry. whatever team he will be on, if any, he will be avery polarizing player. some will be supportive, others will fear him anc yeg others will hate him. it is a huge gamble to draft him, and it is doubtful some cities in less than friendly states would even consider him. seattle would work, any of californias teams, floridas teams, buffalo, all possibilities.

dafrey23 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yes not sure what the big deal is. Just the media trying to make another story out of nothing, which is actually nothing. Maybe 10 or 20 years ago it may have been news. It shouldn't be a big deal. It would be great if it wasn't big deal because that would mean that everyone has become as enlightened as you. But it's the other players in football that make this into a news story. When you have players go to the media saying that gays aren't welcome in the NFL (or any other league) then it makes it a big deal that an out *** man is going to be in the next draft. If you want a great example of what I'm talking about, google what Jonathan Vilma said in the last week about Sam. He's one of a few that have spoken about it, but I'm sure there are many more thinking the same thing. There was also a poll done recently in the US that showed that 45% of people in the US view homosexuality as a sin and 33% believe that society should not accept homosexuality. Considering most NFL players are pretty religious, that population is likely to be higher than 33%. Can you imagine going to work when half of your office disapproves of you smoking cigars and is willing to do anything to make you not be able to smoke cigars? It's that US, religious right mentality that is what also makes this a big deal.
Dozerhead Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 It's only being made a big deal because he will be the first 'openly' *** player to play in the NFL. There have probably always been *** players in the NFL but it was never made public during their playing days. I've heard former players mention that they had *** teammates during their playing days and that it was never that big a deal. Hopefully in a couple of years this won't be such a big deal and certain segments of society won't freak out about it as much.

shlomo Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 How did you pick those particular teams? Just thinking about the cities and the environment and fan support he would receive as oppose to some less LGBT friendly cities.
DrunkenMonkey Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I think homophobia is dead within another generation. When people know someone who's *** they realize how much it doesn't change their own life at all, or threaten them in any way. And when you know and like someone who's *** it's hard not to want equality for them.

There are a-holes all over the world who will hate and fear the different. These bigoted and disgusting people will always be around and will always affect many other people's thoughts.
khomeinist Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I was just surprised that Sam is from Hitchcock Texas... a town I know very well. NOT the first place one would expect the NFL's first openly *** player to call home..... great bbq shack there..... 1

While this is 100% true, I still have hope that as more people learn that someone close to them is *** this fear will subside. It will never fully go away but hopefully it can quickly move to the point where it isn't big news anymore. I know that having *** members of my family has changed the viewpoint of even the most conservative in my family. It's just a matter of time. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

These bigoted and disgusting people will always be around and will always affect many other people's thoughts. I don't know about all over the world, but I know that young people in my country are very much more accepting of *** people than older people. This is true with regard to racism too, I think, but it's much slower. I think the key is having personal knowledge of and contact with *** people. Racism is harder, I think, because society, at least where I live, is still not very racially integrated. Homosexuality crosses racial and class lines, I think.

Dozerhead Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Yeah, I know what you mean. I went to high school just a few miles down the road. Which bbq shack are you talking about?
pwhite Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 The real question is, why is this a story? Why does someone need to make a public profession of their sexuality? This isn't Jackie Robinson. Race in and of itself is a statement of ones self, sexual gender is not. The overriding issue here is that if you are against homosexuality, you are labeled a "homophobe", i.e. Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty. In this day and age is it not alright to disagree with a homosexual lifestyle? It seems that there is a move is to "normalize" homosexuality, whether in the schools, i.e. "Heather has Two Mommies", or with legislation passed against the will of the people, i.e. *** marriage. If you do not agree with the life style you are labeled a homophobe. However, I'll stick with the label of Christian. 2

buster Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 The real question is, why is this a story? Why does someone need to make a public profession of their sexuality? This isn't Jackie Robinson. Because this was going to hound him. Blogs and various media were starting to talk about it, and this would blow up when the draft came. Best to get out in front of this and control the story than have the tabloids control it and hound him. He did not just decide to do this out of the blue for publicity. He is a public figure and has a life and a potential future career to protect. Race in and of itself is a statement of ones self, sexual gender is not. Is this written in stone somewhere? In a handbook? What makes race "in and of itself" a statement of ones self, but being a man or woman not a statement of self? Or being a male homosexual or a lesbian not a statement of oneself? Or being a musician, or a baseball player not of statement of ones self. I am a lot of things: white, male, formerly overweight (now just slightly ), an aging tennis player, a father... are not all of these things a statement of ones self, "in and of itself" or not... whatever that means? The overriding issue here is that if you are against homosexuality, you are labeled a "homophobe", i.e. Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty. In this day and age is it not alright to disagree with a homosexual lifestyle? Incorrect. Phil Robertson did not just say he was against homosexuality. He called gays "homosexual offenders", grouped homosexuality with bestiality, sleeping around (with men or women), idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, the greedy, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers. Then he ranted about people, groups and religions not having Jesus in their lives. Who says gays don't have Jesus in their lives? And my religion does not include Jesus... I think my congregation holds an upstanding place, locally, in the US, and globally, and is moral, upstanding, and performs great acts of charity and caring. So no... he really did not just say he does not agree with the homosexual lifestyle. It seems that there is a move is to "normalize" homosexuality Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Same sex behavior has been around forever. It has been observed in over 1500 non-human species (well documented in over 500 species), and in humans, the percentage of gays in the population is thought to be anywhere from 5 to 12%, depending on the studies. It has always been and will always be. A biological certainty. Rick 4
