Crikey is there a bad one?

What each of them are is distinct.

SLRDC, VRDA, RAG, Lusi, Punch DC, HDM DC

The strongest lineup of any vitola in terms of consistent quality and Marque flavour definition.

Right now: Punch DC and HDM DC just pipping out VRDA and RAG. Still if it is a horse race then they are all swamping the line.

Could someone please translate that for me? help.gif

Take up golf. Plenty of time to finish a DC. Hoyo DC on the front. Lusi for the back. Great day.

I stash them away for football season. One will last nearly a whole game.

I am always amazed that so many cannot make two hours for themselves somewhere in their week to smoke a larger cigar.

Unfortunately my Cab of 50 2005 Punch DCs stayed boring. (very mild)

Saint Luis Rey DC has been discontinued last year.

I bought three dress boxes of May '05 Punch Punch.

They were also very mild, to the point of boring, so I put them aide for years.

A few recently smoked have improved greatly, picking up some strength,

as well as flavour. Though not powerhouses, they are now quite enjoyable,

and, I believe, still improving.

Since DCs in 50 cabs mature very slowly, you may well have a pleasant surprise in a few years.

According to Trevor's Cuban Cigar Website, the SLR DC is still listed as current.

It is produced occasionally, and there can be large gaps between production runs.

DCs are rolled only by the highest level torcedores.

As quantities produced are relatively small,

and given that they represent the summum of their marcas,

top quality tobaccos are used, and the blends of each are well respected.

AS MRN might si would love to know where you get this info from...? never h interesting, although i disagree with much of itay, complaints about their quality are invariably due to smoking them too young.

Every box of mine has eventually become excellent,

though some took as long as eight years to fully develop.

In those marcas where the Churchill is the largest regular production module,

e.g. Bolivar, Cohiba, Upmann, or in SCDH El Morro,

effectively a cross between a DC and a Churchill,

the same holds true.

No regular production DC has been discontinued in recent memory,

and while there are times when one or another is not readily available,

IMHO, none will be discontinued in the forseeable future.

I just put down on my ''to buy list'' Hoyo and Punch DC cabs this year along with more RAGs. I have been enjoying the few I have left the last couple months. Maybe I should add the SLR to the list as well. I for one enjoy the larger vitolas when I can.

Smoking, reading, smoking, discussing, smoking, thinking, smoking...

I enjoy a DC from time to time

Usually when the Rugby is on as it last for the Pre Game, the actual match and then usually the Post Game wrap up

I had a VR DC a while back, amazing cigar

The only problem I have with DC's is the price

The taxes on a box of DC's are outrageous here and that tends to turn me off buying them.

like i said, interesting. not sure i believe parts of it, but never really gave it much thought.

my "right now" was in relation to quality.

To smoke young, Lusi and VRDA perform well in front of the others (My opinion). The Punch DC require a significant period of time to really open up much like the SLR DC and Hoyo.

Second this! I think my Punch DC's are '08s and my SLR's are 05 I think. Never been a fan of the Hoyo but the Lusi, VRDA & RAG I agree on as well.

Another fan of the DC format. I just finished some Hoyos from 2007 and they were wonderful smokes and really captured the HDM profile. I make time to smoke them in the summer months and find them most relaxing. Given the positive feedback on the Punch DCs, I may have to give them a try.

Love Punch Dc's and VRDA but didn't enjoy the 2 Lusitania's I had at all.

I want to quote Max Gutmann, "people don't seem to have the time to enjoy a big cigar anymore."

A good DC brings a smile to my face.

Size preference in the Chinese market? I would assume they care less about size and more about how many gold bands are on the cigar...

And this differentiates the Chinese market from the rest of the world in what way?

I have been known to cut prominentes in half. Usually 5-7 mm north of the midpoint. I am shameless I suppose but rather this than mess around fighting a too-tight cigar of this size.

I know what I said was overgeneralizing, but the Chinese market in general is all about showing off and having the "best" or perceived best of everything. Not very different than the rest of the world, but I believe Wilkey and I were discussing this exact same thing a few weeks back. Its all about Johnny Blue and Cohiba BHK there, regardless of taste, or actual enjoyment. It is just keeping up with the Jones' and bragging rights...more so than the general population in the West.

It reminds me of "The West" in the 80's lol3.gif

I was only a young pup then, but from all the old people telling me about "the '80s" sounds about right.... nyah.gif

My local B&M owner and I were talking about this the other day. He (a cuban expat) was telling me that the DC's stay on the shelf for a long time… the box of VRDA have been on the shelf for three years. I have been buying them at $16 usd a stick (he has various robustos at $15 a stick). He told me a box of robustos goes in under a month (usually 4-5 different brands in that size) and the DC sits and waits.

Most of his business is from American tourists and they love the "big name" robustos, but still, it makes you think…

I will not stop loving the DC, one of my favourite vitolas, but many others are overlooking a great cigar experience.

Where in the world are you that you can pick up DCs for only $1 more than a robusto?! That sounds like a wonderful place!

San Pedro Belize… and it is a wonderful place… The local B&M is owned and manned by a Cuban and he has fresh custom rolls from Havana and a good selection to boot… Who could ask for more?
