Hi, I have a few 2008 DC Partagas Luis left and I know why...they just take SOOO long to smoke. Having 2 to 2 1/2 hours to smoke a cigar is just very difficult now a days.

What are your thoughts? Prez...can you comment on DC's popularity from a sales perspective? Are they high, med or low sellers now a days?

I'll post a review of the Part 2008 Luis tomorrow, hopefully!

Take up golf. Plenty of time to finish a DC. Hoyo DC on the front. Lusi for the back. Great day.

I stash them away for football season. One will last nearly a whole game.

I am always amazed that so many cannot make two hours for themselves somewhere in their week to smoke a larger cigar.

Low seller but have been for some 15 - 20 years.

The world loves a PC/Robusto/Piramide and variations thereof.

In a world where families struggle to all get on the same page for dinner once or twice per week, its too long a smoke for the mass market. i find it best a "vacation" cigar and smoked on on my last cuba trip as I had nothing else to do.

Having said that, I still gravitate towards enjoying two different robustos (or other medium sized smoke) to have choice and still take up the same smoking time.

I think Churchills are probably in the same boat too.

It is hard to find the time required to dedicate towards smoking the bigger vitolas these days.

But Piramides are popular?

I need 2 hours for a Piramide and 2 1/2 for a Double Corona.

My Top 3 vitolas are Double Corona, Piramide and Robusto. smile.png

It's not just a world full of busy lives that's cutting the time available, but you also the fact that you have to pick a single spot and stay put. You can't light up in the lounge, saunter across the lobby, linger in the bar and then walk back to the office with prominente in hand.

I have SW, Boli CG and Lusi. smoke one of each once a year...maybe. Its a bit of a time commitment. on the plus side, they are getting a lot of age. I reckon I'll have these boxes a long time.

My problem is there are no dcs I love so I don't smoke them. Churchills, esplendidos and sir winnies all day.

I've had punch, slr, hoyo, lusis etc and the flavor just ain't there. Probably will try some gigantes ra.

RAG, BCG and Lusitanias. AMAZING. Will smoke a few a year, but only during summer obviously.

Esplendidos are very good too, but too many fakes and takes a long time to even think of cracking a box.

Never had a good SW.

RyJ Churchills and VR DA are very hit and miss imo.

Hoyo DC and Punch DC (and Churchill) have a nice sweetness and peanut butter flavour to them, but not always and the construction issues with Punch DC and Churchill over the past decade is an abomination.

SLR are nice, I prefer to smoke 2 Regios or Series A though....

And thats the thing I believe. Most would prefer to smoke 2 robustos or a pyramide and a corona as opposed to one giant cigar. Many of us here have Cuaba Diademas or Monte As in the humi, but how many of us will end up trading them away, selling them or altogether forgetting about them as opposed to clipping and lighting them?

I've not been the biggest DC fan, but I do love the churchill format. I fully understand time constraints......... But generally speaking, I'd rather take / make the time to enjoy a cigar rather than rush to get one in, so to speak. For me, the Bolivar CG, Hoyo Churchill, Upmann SW are more than worth the time invested.

I enjoy my Punch DC's and Lusitanias now and then. I think Prez hit the nail on the head. The sales of the vitola are not great and that's what might kill it. But in reality. Is a DC really a more time consuming than a BHK56? That's a big cigar too. I hope they stick around. I'd hate to see them get the axe. I think there's a niche for Churchills, DC's and even the Monte A.

I personally would rather smoke two small cigars in the same time. Don't think I currently own any DCs at all.

Personally I'm not in a rush to smoke cigars so if a dc is really good I would prefer to smoke it rather than two cigars. Trying to get in x number of cigars isn't my objective which is to simply enjoy the flavor for a prolonged period of time whether it comes from one or two or three cigars.

A Churchill lasts the same amount of time as a No.2 for me. I do need to smoke a few more regularly tho. Are the discontinued HDM churchills any good?

I'm not saying I don't browse FOH in the men's room!

I know one thing that prevents me from smoking DC's is transport.... Trying to nonchalantly carry a DC on your person is like walking around with a Viagra erection.... And the moment you whip it out everyone starts hooting and hollering....

Interesting fact: of the 10 regular production cigars that are offered in 50ct format, there are 4 Prominentes. (Hoyo/Lusi/Punch/SLR)

IMO, this shows that for people who like Prominentes they REALLY like them. If current trends hold, then I think that there will always be a place for Prominentes in the HSA lineup.

FYI, the other 50ct offerings are 3 Robusto (Epi2/JLS2/RASS), 1 Corona Gorda (Punch), 1 Mareva (PLPC) & 1 Minuto (PShorts)

Nothing better on a long drive than a DC ,I been nursing a box of 97 Luci's for about 5 years. I don't dread long drive I kind of look forword to them.

I really tried to love DC's but they just are a bit bland to me. I find the churchills a better long smoke than DC's. Lusi's are probably my favorite though and wouldn't mind having a cab to age for decades lol.

I honestly have gotten bored with pretty much every DC I ever smoked.
