Although I do commend a man for his childhood story telling and a young trife life that enabled him to put a career in rap together and make good money doing it. But now, enough is enough.. I know there's only so many songs, albums, and years you can rap about the hard times and a "hard knock life", but now and lately he's just conformed to all the other commercial BS out there like collaborating with Timberlake.. From a musical standpoint gentlemen, what he speaks is not "rap" anymore.. The man should've stepped away a long time ago.. He's making money elsewhere and I can't be mad at man for that. But this crap? It's what's wrong with the world today..there's just no appreciation anymore.

I'm not really into rap music but find it interesting how someone can go from very little to having a net worth of an estimated $500 million. Succeeding against the odds is something to lookup to in my opinion and in a world of 2 minute pop stars and reality show divas I'd love my kid to shake his hand and see a tangible example that the only limits in life are the bounds of your imagination and work ethic. Can't we just agree that Country music sucks and all sounds the same?!?! Edit: Whoever reviews this should rap it....

People don't make 500m because they got lucky. I know he and the missus went to Cuba last year and spent some time in some of the right places, La Fontana, Gato Tuerto etc. As for celebrities promoting or endorsing cigar smoking, that's all good, as long as there's no backlash if, for example, his appeal was to underage fans, but I don't think that's the case. It's better than people like Jay-Z jumping on the anti-smoking bandwagon. I'd spend $30, once, for one of the cigars if I could find one. Just to see what the hoo-ha is. Why not.

Shattered Elvis's album sales records and I believe the Beetles as well. Even if you aren't a fan of his music you must admit he's doing something right...He's talented. I still remember all the words to "Kokomo" from The Beach Boys because I sang it in junior high school choir. Only sang it probably 40 times. I can recite (not sing according to the other people in the car at any given time) hundreds of songs from memory. Doesn't mean I am Mensa material. The US population alone was 100-150 MILLION less in the 60s than it is now. With technology delivering music to every household in multiple media formats there are exponentially more ways a person would be exposed to Jay-Z music as opposed to Elvis or The Beatles. Jay-Z selling more records than people 50 years ago is a pointless argument. It in no way says that he is more talented or a better musician than either. I am not saying any of those three are better than the other, but your comparison is moot as you apply it. If Jay-Z knew ANYTHING about cigars, he would not be putting his name on a NC Cohiba. Tatuaje? Fuente? My Father? DPG? Padron? Oliva? Nope. Instead he picked the biggest cigar whorehouse he could find and ran with it. The guy admits he only is doing it for style points. I am betting the cigar he is putting out is only for style points. The rest of the marketing crap is just that, crap. 2

I don't dislike Jay-Z as a person, but I will not support him. In 2010 when he made almost $68,000,0000 he gave less than $7,000 to his own foundation. He sells a lifestyle of excess and opulence to people who can barely afford rent and these cigars are nothing different. Listen to some of his old music. If you love your wife and/or daughters you can't come away thinking this guy is anything more than disgusting. Also, the last time I checked the old rock songs/groups weren't being trashed because they were singing about "smacking their ***** up" and all other sorts of disgusting things. They were swinging their hips and playing too fast. 2

Kinda funny how visiting Cuba is not prohibited for the top 1% of wealthy people in the US It's now legal for any US passport holder to visit Cuba. It's not cheap but I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in Cuban cigars. Try googling "People to people" tours Cuba. These things probably aren't advertised heavily because they can't be advertised as vacations but it would be a shame if there were people who didn't go because they thought they couldn't go legally.

Love his old stuff, respect the new music (including the numberS with Timberlake, because say what you want, that guy is a true entertainer). People complain Jay Z has become too commercial, but they have to remember the guy isn't who he used to be. As the man became rich, successful, and respected his story changed, so why should he continue telling stories from the streets? Either way, I don't think Jay Z's role in hip-hop is for the fans anymore, it's for aspiring artists and showing them what's possible. Also, most people complain about baggy clothes, bling, pimped out cars, drining cough syrup and other obnoxious behavior in the hip-hop industry, Jay Z is influencing people to wear suits, drink fine wine and champagne, and appreciate art (he references Basquiat, Banksy, and Warhol more than any drug references in his latest album). And most importantly for me (and my presence on this forum): because of a Jay Z videoclip I tried my first cigar. And although people are undoubtedly going to ***** and moan about that, I come from a family who strongly oppose any type of smoking, so without Jay Z I would've never ever considered smoking cigars. Some might find it appalling that I'd emulate a rapper, but from my point of view it's no different than introducing your child or grandchild to smoking. But in the end it's probably a generational thing. My dad HATES Jay Z, and rap in general, with a passion, as he disapproves of smoking. But since I'm his son, he'll ask me if I want to smoke in the garden when the weather is nice and he'll let me know when he sees a Jay Z album on sale. So if a dad can live with his son listening to music he personally hates, why would anyone on the forum care what someone, whom they only know as an avatar and a made-up handle, does?
