Well, the 2003 EL was a Double Corona. That is not a Double Corona. Sooooo....

Definitely fake. The limited edition piramides was released in 2001 and again in 2006. The only special release of Cohiba Piramides that came out in 2003 was part of the Seleccion Piramides. It did not have an EL band though.

I think the 03 EL bands were embossed if I remember correctly, but the Cohiba band looks awfully close

The Cohiba band looks like **** if you ask me.

Maybe you guys can shine some light on this for me... To me, that's the closest fake cohiba band I've ever seen. I'm just wondering how they are able to duplicate the band so closely.. The obvious dead giveaway is the yr/vitola of the cigar on this but here's my issue:

I was at a party last weekend and had a nice cigar with a few gentlemen. One of the few broke out a couple of Cohiba's .. They were close to a Siglo IV in size but off..I asked to see the cigars just out of curiousity. Obvious fakes just on the quality alone but the band was so close.. I tried not to make it too obvious I was studying it but from the time I had with the cigar in my hand it was hard to judge it based on the band alone. Normally, it's a dead giveaway..

Guess my point here is, are counterfeiters just reusing Authentic bands now or is there a distinct difference I'm missing..

Isn't the real band cut almost right along the top row of dots? That, and the 'C' in Cuba are the two things I look for first.

"C" in cuba is the first I look for as well

Thickness in the gold print and the gold font and colour used is always another spot I look closely at. I'll try and dig up some examples and take some pics of a couple I have laying around.

I know it is a lot of trouble for you but such infos would be very helpful for others like me.

Not to sound like a prick but having learned the hard way, easiest solution is to only buy from 100% trusted folks or just accept that you are rolling the dice.

I couldn't agree with you more. But when I'm approached with a fake, I want to be damn sure it is a fake and know the reasons why, especially when dealing with Cohiba. It's more for personal satisfaction and general knowledge of CC's, not for purchasing. I always buy from trusted sources.

I am happy to help any way I can.

Sometimes the fakes have real bands, real boxes, and rolled with Cuban tobacco. A friend of mine has an uncoded CoRo box that look beauty but taste just like HdM epi.2's

Anyway, here's a couple of bands for the debate.

(Sorry my phone sucks at close up shots)

Slightly squashed font, visible mostly on the 'C' and gold not centered in the white.

Different yellow colour and slightly cut off white squares.

Over all size of the band as well.

If anyone has these two cigars, I'd love to see a comparison between their examples.

thank you all for the lesson.

thing is, my buddy bought it in a shop in rom, not of the street or something.

If its not a LCDH never a guarantee
