El Presidente Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I miss the glory days of the "Staff Christmas Party" .......it is a little akin to the move Anchorman Our banking Christmas parties were legendary. Take 100 people in the banking division (80% female), add a liberal does of booze, music, and food. The offices in those days were smoker friendly to boot! Fast forward a couple of hours and it is debauchery. The GM's slurring speach, the janitor telling the HR manager why people find her repulsive, home truths blurted out, office doors being closed as newly found lovebirds have a fling! But my favourite part was always the complete lack of eye contact between staff the next day at the office Doeas anyone still have Staff Christmas Parties Like this?
Orion21 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I think they do at the Playboy Mansion . . .
gsmoke Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Just had one on Tuesday... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Stanislaw Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Hey rob, not sure if you realize it but Scorsese just made a movie based on those parties, I think it's called Wolf of Wallstreet something or other.... Heheheh that sounds like an amazing time, if only my generation weren't such tight asses....
Fuzz Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I miss those days. The few years of office Xmas parties I attended were bland and boring. The last one was the worst. Out of a team of 50, 10 people turned up, and it was held at the local pub. Started at 6:30pm, over by 9:30pm. What's worse, the office had put up a bar tab, but they were so cheap, there was only enough money on the tab for 2 drinks per person (enough for 20 drinks in total!)... plus you could only choose from 2 beers on tap or house wine!!!
Cohiba Stevie Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Had mine on Saturday night... Dinner was at 6 and the food was finished by 7:30pm. The last drinks were being finished at 7:30am the next day... As I am the manager I had to maintain some dignity lol, but it's now Thursday and some members of my team haven't made eye contact with each other since! It was a great night though. Smoked a nice cohiba robusto after dinner.
TiminBC Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Sadly I think those days are behind us. I worked for a bank in IT once. The head of our department expected all major vendors to provide a party so the whole month was a drink fest with bars being rented. I cannot image this occurring today. We only had 2 rules back then and one was do not drink and drive (taxis were paid for) and what happened in the party stayed in the party. Sometimes words got a little hot but things always cooled off the next day or two.
Isotonic Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Sadly the days of fleet cars, long pissy lunches and Girls Gone Wild style Xmas shindigs are few and far between. What happened to these days of excess? Are companies more hard up than they were in the 90's?
NJP Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hotel/Hospitality break ups are a filthy night and funny enought so are construction. Or it might just be me attending.
polarbear Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 When I was still a first year apprentice the Christmas party for the year was at the bosses house He had this massive place with a huge pool and entertaining area out the back The block he lived on was fully manicured, the main house had 6 bedrooms and he had a pool house with another 2 bedrooms. This place was PIMPIN The party was catered and the booze was supplied. There were 15 full eskys for a staff of 20. Everyone ate well, swam and got very drunk. When people got sick of getting drunk, they started getting stoned! One thing I will never forget is the Owner of the house and the Company leaning over to me and saying "Young Fella! You Wanna Get Stoned?"
al321 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The good old days! Mine starts with an open bar at noon tomorrow...hoping for eye contact on Monday.
Drguano Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I started working for a company 16 years ago and we had a party at a bar after work where we were given drink tickets and fed. They drew names out of a hat for prizes like TV sets. That morphed into afternoon affairs without drink and finally dwindled to miserly pot luck lunches in the office to be attended to only during the 30 minute lunch break. As you can imagine, that has not been enthusiastically repeated and now there are no parties at all. We all make our fun elsewhere and just show up for work. Screwge (misspelling intentional) has taken over.
Jeremy Festa Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I have two very memorable staff Christmas party highlights. One was when I worked at a cable ski park on the Sunshine Coast. We got pretty loose and climbed the tower, hung on to the actual cable, which is 8 metres up in the air, cranked up the cable to 50km/h and shot off down the lake and we would let go before the first corner. Surprised no one died! The second memorable one, was working in the UK for a big brand, and one of the sales reps got fired the next day, because they fire extinguished the office stairwell, with a foam extinguisher, got totally wasted, called the director a few names, went to the car park, and tried to drive home in her company car, crashing on the way out, before some friends pulled her out the car. Was awesome to watch. Merry Christmas
Skyfall Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Of Course, several throughout the year actually!
ptrthgr8 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Used to work for a rather large internet retailer. The post-Christmas parties were epic. Q4 was always the busiest time for us. Our mantra was work hard, have fun, make history. The fun and history making happened during those parties. Party planning budget measured in thousands of dollars (huzzah, internet money!), hundreds of people (average age probably around 23), open bar, a couple of hotel banquet rooms and blocks of rooms reserved for those who couldn't drive home (or for those who wanted to get it on), DJ playing all night. And tons of jello shots. Gawd. So much debauchery. There were usually some HR issues at work in the next few weeks, but it was still a great time. 1999-2006. Some of the best company parties I've ever attended and helped organize. The parties with my current employer (since 2006) are pretty dull by comparison. But I suppose most things would be. Lotusguy Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Those days are long over, especially for US locations. Simply too much liability.
Rushman Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Last two companies I worked for were very large and parties went the way of the dodo, turned to gift Certs instead. So I had department parties for my team usually at my house. No sex but lots of booze and loads of fun. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=19.390128,-81.404662
Coolio Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 At the airline I work for our parties between 2000-2010 were legendary. Then we got a new boss and haven't had one since! I'll never forget the first christmas party we had down the coast, when some cabin crew were running around squirting each other with water guns. It was like a massive wet tshirt contest! ahhh the good old days.
Colt45 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 What happens at the Christmas party, stays at the Christmas party.......
jangoman88 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 i think its because companies dont want to be liable for anything and money and then theres HR issues that seems to be how all the nannies/nancies seem to get their panties in a bunch....I remember some parties like that and then as the years went on...dull parties or none at all. My current place does not want to have any parties outside of work (organized) even if its on our own time
Drguano Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The company I work for, a big box retailer, is so cheap, they gave us empty company gift cards and told us that we could put our own money on them and have fun shopping. Seriously!

Some shenanigans that go on overseas in an airline crew layover environment still have their moments!
Coolio Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Ahhhah. Right as I joined dammit. Some shenanigans that go on overseas in an airline crew layover environment still have their moments! Every layover would be like a christmas party wouldn't it dux?
Laxman Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Boy have times changed. Started working after college in 1995 down on Wall Street and the Christmas parties were insane. There were stories to tell till the next Xmas party. Back then I always heard some pretty crazy stories of office Christmas parties. Times have changed as your lucky if your not home by 9pm. Back in the day you never heard of lawsuits where now a days, at least in the states, it has become a lawsuit society and has pretty much put an end to the old school Xmas extravaganzas. Technology has not helped either as back then there were no camera phones or social media sites to post pictures on.
