When is the last time that you had a Double Corona?

My last DC was a Punch DC just over a month ago. Before that a Lusi and a VR DA the month prior.

Now I love the quality of current Double Corona's but I just dont have the time to do them justice. It is always in the back of my mind that the DC is falling victim to time limitations of the modern world.

Back in the 70's I well recall that few people in Oz who were in business for themselves really worked past lunchtime. It was off to the pup or club with mates for a long lunch, copious amounts of booze, a cigar and then hop in the car to head home lookaround.gif

To my mind the Double Corona is the cigar version of the Lung Fish. Still survives but is an evolutionary throwback to times long gone.

When is the last time you have had a Double Corona?

I smoked a NC Double Corona about 3 months ago

For me, its not just a time thing but also a price issue

A box of Hoyo or Punch DC's cost the same as a box of Esplindidos or Lanceros and while I enjoy HDM and punch on occation I always enjoy a Cohiba Lancero

I know I'm not comparing apples with apples but from a price point of view I'd rather have one box (or sometimes two) of a cigar i love than one box of cigars I dont mind

About two months ago. Partagas Lusitania. For what it's worth, I have about one to two cigars a week.

I, too, wish I had more time for them.

On the other hand, when I buy them they tend to sit for a bit. Makes them easy to age.

Like you Rob my last DC was a Punch and it was magnificent. Personally I love the DC and the Churchill size cigars. Can't beat a Sir Winston, Punch DC or any other DC. Like yourself it is finding the time to relax and enjoy these gems. Like seems to fast pace with career and family needs. I kind of a throwback I hunger for times long past where life was so simple. I guess I will just have to make time to enjoy these wonderful cigars. Not to mention that this Damn winter weather is killing my cigar enjoyment. One of the downsides of living in Canada.

I last had a DC to celebrate the birth of my second child back in April and it was a Hoyo that I'd been saving for a while. I told my wife "I'm smoking this now because it's probably the last 2-2.5 hours I'm going to have to myself for the next 6 months".

I was right. Haven't had a DC since.

I smoked a nc double corona last weekend. It was a Liga no 9 and it was a long smoke. About 2 1/2 hrs. I enjoyed it and the time to just step away. Unfortunately the strength caught up with me and I felt ill for the rest of the day and night.

It is a victim of modern lifestyles, in that they wont be your regular go to smoke. However, they still has a place for those special times when you do have the time for one. I wouldnt say they are redundant but just that their place has changed.

Oh... and to answer Prez... about 18 months ago innocent.gif

The last DC I had was from the blind taste test. I have to say I enjoyed every aspect of that cigar, from the flavors it delivered to the sheer weight in hand. It does require, and deserves, a good 2 hours at least. That amount of time can be difficult to devote but a good DC will surely reward you for it.

The day before yesterday, a RAG from 2008. A super good looking/smelling box which is a disapointment…

I can smoke inside, next to the fireplace, and if I could afford it I'd have all the DCs in my rotation – I love them all when they're properly blended, but when it's not the case they can be sooo boring…

Can't say I have ever had a DC not that I don't have the time just trying to find singles is hard and full boxes can run $300 + I just don't have the coin to spend on one box when you can get a couple of boxes of the smaller sticks for the same $

I smoke a handful or so a month. I've got a few Lusitanias, RA Gigantes, VR DA, Punch, HdM and SLR DCs in my humidor.

Typically the Partagas or RA are what I reach for.

Helps that I smoke at the office ok.gif

Back around June/July, I bought some Lusi's and Hoyo's, I think 25 total, to get me through football season, college and NFL games. Not enough to smoke one each Saturday and Sunday, but enough to get me through the season by rationing them. Some weekends, two. Other weekends, one.

Got to tell you. I've been disappointed so far. Maybe they need more age, or something. I find I'm constantly relighting these cigars during the 2 1/2 to 3 hours it takes me to smoke one. These are stored in the same humi that other sticks are stored in and I'm not having this problem with the other sticks. 65%/70 df almost constantly in my humi, so I don't think its an issue related to that. I'm letting the remaining sticks rest until next season hoping they will be improved.

I usually smoke them on the golf course because like everyone said it's hard to find 2-3 hours to kick back and smoke when I'm at home but on the course I have 3-4 hours to fully enjoy a DC.

I usually smoke at least one DC a week, on average. This past Friday evening I had a delicious Lusi from a cab I got a while back. The weekend before that I enjoyed a great HdM DC. I would absolutely panic if I didn't have a good stock of Lusis and Hoyo DCs in the cabinet. I consider them must-haves, just like Party Shorts and PSD4s.

Cheers,

Greg

Lusi and Monarcas- in the last month.

Enjoyed both.

I tend to equate longer sticks with summer time - so that they can be enjoyed outside.

Definitely a time commitment...but well worth it

My last was actually a Opus X and it knocked the living Christ out of me..I have a handful of Punch and 15 or so Hoyo ,20 Lusitanias that are just perfect and six RAG . My only problem is that if I smoke a DC I like smoking one with someone else which can be a difficult at the best of times(to find someone who actually wants to smoke one as well). So if I sit by myself I usually get board and/or quite pissed even if I am outside watching a movie. That said they are nice to have lying around to show people , I can't see myself buying another box though.

Last week- '08 Lusi. Killer.

Last time was a punch dc. Sane like you Rob. Mostly bit takes too much time and a box is also very expensive.
