Newkarian Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Wanting to try some Fuente Anejo 77. Torpedo/piramides and box pressed vitolas are my favorite and this cigar sounds delicious. Sounds like a great pairing with my favorite rum Zacapa 23. What is your opinion on this stick my fellow FOH? Also looking to find some near msrp if anyone has knows a source pm me.
CurtisEss Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Not to be that guy who says "The anejo 77 is best after 5 years," but the anejo 77 is best after 5 years. In my experience it really takes that long for the cognac taste to mellow out and let the other flavors come through. Before then they are a decent cigar, but it seems like kind of a waste. I just smoked my last aged anejo, so I tried smoking a fresh one to see if times had changed. They hadn't. As far as finding one near MSRP, I suspect that will be particularly difficult with this cigar. The other anejos are hard enough to find near MSRP, and this size is in even higher demand. Anywhere that I've seen that has these at MSRP sells them out so fast that you would have to get your name on a list or check it out every day. Fortunately for me, no one in Fort Collins seems to smoke anejos, so the B&M here has them well into February. Good luck. I'll send you a PM of the best online place I know of to buy them, but they're already sold out.
Newkarian Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Is there anyone that would suggest the 46 over the 77. I can get a box and singles of those for msrp.
AlohaStyle Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 You live in Tampa? That's probably the best place to find Fuentes since that's where they have offices...
Larsy Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Is there anyone that would suggest the 46 over the 77. I can get a box and singles of those for msrp. 46 is my fav of the Anejo line up
PigFish Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Fuente Anejo 77 ? Fuente euh !!!!!!! You kill me mate. -R
Brickhouse Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The 46 is the best of the line in my opinion. I like the Sharks fine...I actually still have a rare Cameroon one, but I think you'll find a lot of people that favor the 46 over any other.
Newkarian Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 I picked up a 46 to try just a few minutes ago. Will let everyone know when I smoke it over Thanksgiving. Still going to get some of the Sharks though.

The picture of the Cameroon one that Moki has makes me every time. How are they?
Brickhouse Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I actually only bought 1 Anejo 77 Shark Cameroon when they did the limited release back in....'06 I want to say it was. But I haven't smoked it. I still check on it though, it's sleeping nicely and I'm sure it will not disappoint when I decide to give it the flame.
polarbear Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I tried the 77's and found them to be a bit meh Most of the Anejo line leaves me a bit flat I have a few Opus Sharks from 08 that are outstanding though Anejo Sharks regually turn up on a popular cigar trading website for close to RRP If you dont know what site i'm refering to, PM me
JHands Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Me and newkarian have found many local shops selling them at msrp. I scooped up a couple today. Going to burn one young then bury the other one in my humi and forget about it
Trent0341 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I agree with those saying the 46 is the best of the line. I had tar issues with the 77. That being said it's been years since I've smoked any Fuentes.
Newkarian Posted November 27, 2013 Author Posted November 27, 2013 Scored a few of the 77 at my local shop. Will smoke one and lay the rest down for a couple years. Ended up going with a box of the 46 after seeing all the vitola. Smoked one 46 last night and for me it was the perfect size for a maduro. Beautiful cigar with a classic red and gold label. Nice construction with no issues. Dark smooth oily wrapper with slight inconsistency in color, clearly not dyed. On the preburn nose The cognac came forward with a little aged tobacco and cocoa. Pre light draw was tight but not overly so after cutting with a punch. Mollasses and cognac on the draw. Toasted the foot and on lighting nothing but thick creamy smooth smoke. For a maduro probably the smoothest I have smoked as far as spicyness in the throat. First third had a slight nuttiness with notes of dark fruit and cocoa. The 2nd third is where it really started shining, nice and creamy, toasted aged tobacco, more cocoa and a slight spicyness. The transition between 2nd and 3rd was the best moment where the wrapper started to get warm. Nice cognac aroma coming off the wrapper with the cocoa fading and spice increasing. Had some draw problems at this point a little to tight. Biting down on the head at this point opened it up nicely and I smoked it to nearly the nub. Would give this cigar a solid 91. Not the most amazing cigar ive ever had but more than likely the best maduro ive tried. Would be a little better with aging to tone down the cognac and blend flavors a little more harmoniously. Would buy more at the price point. The other pleasant thing is that i did not have the horrible stale flavor in my mouth this am like I usually get with maduros in gener and younger opus x cigars. Cheers
JHands Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Great review Sean. Gonna have to spark one of these soon !
Homebrew Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Yes, in my opinion, the #46 is hands down the best of the Anejo line. I have been disappointed in every #77 I have smoked. The #55 is a better smoke than the #77, and generally found at a better price. But my favorite Anejo is still the #46. That said, they all need 4 to 5 years of age, before they are worth smoking. Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
Skitalets Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I am a big fan of the sharks, the round to square shape does add something to the experience for me. But they do need age, absolutely.
TM-US Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I'm a big fan of the Sharks. I don't care for most of the Anejo line; I think the cedar wrapping affects the flavor. The 46 is definitely the best of the rest, though. This time of year, its not that hard to find Anejos in the Philadelphia area. Probably hard in some parts of the country, let alone the ROW.
jangoman88 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 A buddy of mine took a pic of one "A. Fuente Anejo" but not sure which one it was and I'm pretty sure that my local BM just got them in. I just shot him a message to see which one it was. Whats a good price point for them as I may go pick some up?
Newkarian Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 The 46 in the $9-10 range the larger sticks $10-12. The 77 or sharks are good anything under $15. I have been able to procure my allotment as well as scoring some aged examples for comparison from kindly foh members. These are the Tampa area retail prices as far as I can tell. So far all the 2013 examples I have smoked have been great. The 60 was a little much for me on an empty stomach but that was my fault. Have yet to have the time to devote to a 55 or 77.
jangoman88 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 i might pick up a few of each to try them out, not too bad in terms of prices. I need a NC besides Oliva to have in my humi
Homebrew Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I found boxes, at a pretty good price, online. I picked up a box of #46 for $190 US. A box of #48 for $225 US And I just ordered a box of #55 for $247 US. Not to mention that I picked up several boxes, of 858 S.G. from a couple of different vendors, for under $125 US. Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
CigarmanTim Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 A friend of mine owns a B&M. He has 2 partial boxes of sharks from last year and 2 that came in for this year. I believe they are 11.99 each. I am the only one who buys them....and I really don't love them
