Skyfall Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 First round of Duck season is "in the bag" - pun intended. These will be getting stuffed, getting fried, getting grilled, getting braised, getting sauteed, and everything else in between. Between these babies, the ones that go in the freezer, the venison I've already got this season, the hogs, the dove in the freezer and the beef I've butchered, My family won't need to buy meet in a grocery store for MONTHS!!!!! It's always nice to save some grocery money with the bounty that God has provided. A few of my duck hints, I love marinading duck meat in Italian Dressing for the grill, but a little hint, If you freeze your fowl or birds in a bag of Italian Dressing, you can minimize freezer burn, water logging, and impart a great flavor was rady to cook!!!! Decided to throw some Dove on the Grill today!!!
tmac77 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 thought it was wabbit season... duck season... wabbit season. Nice haul there Skyfall
CanuckSARTech Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Haven't tried duck hunting yet. Want to, but just no one I know well enough in my area still duck hunts. Everyone's just turkey and/or deer hunters now. Still a ton of duck hunters around, but none that I've really met / know. Want to give it a go some day, though - looks like an awesome time and very picturesque day, Sky!
CanuckSARTech Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I was gonna this summer, but missed out on something for a couple of weeks at Forg Bragg. Maybe that was a good thing, being that Juarez is right there....
ptrthgr8 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Nice shooting! I'm sure those Mallards will cook up nicely - thanks for the tip, too. I'll try that out. Wonder how well that would work on goose? I'm going out again this weekend to see if I can limit out on some Canadas. Those suckers are flying like crazy up here now. And hopefully the Snows will start showing up soon, too. Cheers, ~ Greg ~

ptrthgr8 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I started doing it with geese then went to ducks and other birds. It's excellent for grilled pheasant!!! Will try it on the geese we get. So far pheasant hunting hasn't panned out. Been out twice this season and haven't seen anything... found a pile of feathers out in field (looks like a coyote had dinner the night before) and saw one roadkill pheasant on the side of the road many miles away. Overall pheasant populations are down 30% in North Dakota this year. And the 'yotes have had their way with those that survived the spring thaw/floods. So... yeah... here's to hoping for more ducks and geese! Cheers, ~ Greg ~
