One last piece of advice.

If all else fails.........

Serve them the cheapest, skunkiest, warmest swill of a beer you can find, and I assure you they will run out to get their own, or make damn sure to bring their own next time. Set a case of Old Milwaukee out in the son to "stew" for a couple of months, and serve them that!

All of my good friends who I live close to are not cigar smokers (besides the few cigar smokers that I have come close with). Some of them do enjoy a cigar on occasion and I enjoy giving cigars every time I want to sit down and smoke. I would rather enjoy company smoking a cigar and I'm happy to provide the cigars every time. With that said, if I hosted poker on a regular occasion and the same buddies came over, you bet your ass they are doing their share in beer, food etc. They drink beer regularly and friends should all share the share. Like others have said, you have moochers, not real friends. At least that's how they are acting. I couldn't imagine my friends showing up all the time with nothing in their hand. It is just the thing to do to bring some beer along, no matter who's place you are going. Sure sometimes we don't have to show up with beer and others provide, but it all comes around.

You have a choice... say something to them that beer/food should be shared and you are happy to provide some cigars if you want to smoke. Or, stop hosting. The other thing is to have a "poker humidor" and let them choose some of your yard gars. Either way, that **** wouldn't fly with me and I like Rob's answer the best. Be honest man.

That's really wrong on many levels. I would not give out good cigars to people that don't appreciate good cigars. I think everyone has given out good advice, so I don't have much to add.

I started this way at our poker games. I supplied the beer and handed out cigars. Eventually I learned that not many really care on the cigar quality or even smoking at all when it came down to it. It went this way for a few times and soon I had offers to host at their place. Problem is, in Singapore most live in condos and smoking is not as welcome by most wives (God knows why). Now I still host most but we have a "sponsor" at each event that we rotate and always have volunteers for beer. We just order pizza that we all split. Most will bring a bottle of something to share as well without asking. Great part of this is as a host most of the time, the leftover booze at the end of the night is mine ;) not that there is a lot of leftover with the gang we have...

As far as cigars, I don't offer as much as I used to. Once in a while a friend will bring me a nice one as a thanks. When I do give out it is because I want to and usually it is a cheap one unless they really like cigars.

Maybe you can all take turns with the supply and if don't have their own cigars then everyone pitches in for that too. Best of luck!

Monthly neighborhood poker game last night. Missed the last few as I was away.

Our host used to provide a full bar setup and snacks. Notice now it's a handul of beers and a bag of chips. Seems there must have been a few guys that show up for this one that have manners like some of your guys.

Of course I showed up as usual with a cooler of beer and a box of cigars, RyJ Coronitas en Cedro's but cigars just the same.....

Simple - Tell them the truth - probably in an email. It's too expensive to keep purchasing the beer and cigars so the beer is now BYO and if they want a cigar, put in an order and you'll get them for them. But still supply the snacks. I provided cigars for my cricket mates and made a list of cigars up with entertaining descriptions and flavour profile, my personal rating out of 5 and an approx price. Good luck.
