Onsto Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 With that said there are enough big predators that have spread throughout North America more than capable of killing a man. Grizzly Bears, Mountain Lions, Wolves are the big three to not include any zoo escapes. So I would choose a bolt action DTA SRS Covert in .308 with Atlas Bipod and supressor. No argument on the .22 for small game, but a .308 as a defensive round against a griz is a bit hopeful. For hunting, with a careful, well placed shot and a follow up if required, maybe. For a charging grizzly hell bent on mauling you, I'd want a little more stopping power than that - a .416 Rigby or similar. I'm not a bear expert and haven't ever shot one, so my opinion only. My choice for multi-purpose apocalypse gun would be a semi-auto shotgun in 12 gauge. You effectively vary the function based on the ammunition (choice of shotshell and slugs) to cover both defensive, offensive and small game / large game hunting requirements as necessary. Ammunition is widely available and could be easily scavenged. Semi-auto for speed of follow up shots, size of magazine and to overcome the risk of short racking a pump action when panicked.
Marker Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Bardiche for a walking staff and ranged fighting. Dual Wakizashi for near hand to hand. Throwing axes for 20+ foot range. You can always make a bat/club out of a tree people.
Dbone Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I'd just not last, possibly I could gain their favor with my Cuban cigar stash.
