OzCuban has put it succinctly for me. Home is where the Heart is.

i'm here and active because i know the people that post on a face to face basis (at least for the Australian members) and when i travel outside the country members are friendly, welcoming and provide local inside knowledge. I'd love to meet some of the overseas characters but have not yet had the pleasure to do so/

Having only been on this forum for less then 2 years, those that know me will know i don't always weigh in on the political or technical stuff, i'm here to hang out, have a laugh and maybe even learn something.

We are fighting over regulation by the government here in OZ, so i think the current mix for the forum is just right, i'd rather not see more rules.

This is the one and only forum for cigars for me. I've been truly touched by kind offers by members all over the world to meet up for a smoke when I'm in their neck of the woods and i can only truly reciprocate by the offering the same when any FOHer in my neck of the woods. I think the mantra rob has set out for this forum have made FOH different from other forums. I think i've been member for over 3 years although the camaraderie is not the same as when i joined and the postings have tamed downed considerably but that i suppose is part of progress when the membership grows as big and as global as this. The underlying ethos of FOH have stayed true.

I have been a member of FOH for years now. Rob is a fantastic person and business man. It was the first board I joined and I check in probably five times a day. I don't post much but I am always reading the forum. I like the thread topics and everyone is civil. I also enjoy the sub forums. I can smoke a cigar and read FOH the whole time.

As far as other boards, FOH is the most active. I belong to another and they used to have very collector specific threads and great info but that board has slowed up. I still enjoy it and check it a few times a day. The archives are some great reading. I think they are trying to get people more active. Still a great board with great members.

CA is joke. I pretty much watch that site for people complaining about shipping issues.

i like steak...i also enjoy a hamburger.

member of a couple of dozen forums...they all have their quirks and all have reasons to attend.

Agreed. I enjoy this forum due to the mass amount of CC knowledge. This forum lacks in the nc area so other forums bridge that gap. I also enjoy a board with history FoH is chalked full of it. I also enjoy history that's permanently archived for all to see. FoH deletes/hides posts that they don't agree with from its members. FoH is also very politically correct, people seem to have very thin skin here. The culture is to accommodate everyone. This certainty has its good points, but also has bad (high censorship rates). So to fill my needs, I utilize multiple sources of information. As a forum I would have to say this is my 2nd favorite forum on the net, and I also visit it a few times a day.

I think just about everything has been covered. I will add I came here recently looking for something more civil and informative and glad I found it. Despite human fascination with disasters it gets tiring watching some of the train wrecks too common elsewhere. That and rampant ad hominem attacks just wear you down when you're really trying to learn and socialize.

not a member of CA but i just went over there to look for laughs. man that place is a mess

Leave it up to Keith to state the obvious.:lol:

But seriously. I'm on a few other forums that serve different purposes for me. FOH is my main "home" though. It's where I've learned the most and made a lot of really good friends at. It's where I post first before any other forum. I do think that the behavior on one particular forum drove a lot of Aficionados here. innocent.gif That's how I found my way.

That other big forum with the bad behavior is a good source of cheap entertainment. No admission price required. LOL

I think Drake puts it best for me...

I met a few folks on another forum geared for Canadians. Met a bunch of folks who eventually got me introduced here.

I don't post much but read a whole lot. Really enjoy the posts by piggy

I've only ever been a member of two cigar-related forums. The first was CA, which I joined way back in the mid-late 90s when cigars were all the rage in the US. I was a member there for a couple of years then grew tired of it - rejoined a few years ago when I had some questions about Aristocrat humidors. Then someone clued me in to the FOH site. And I've never looked back.

First, I've never much cared for the CA format. The site is just clunky. Looking at it today, I can't help but be reminded of 1997. It just feels old and outdated.

Second, I absolutely do agree that the CA forums are a minefield of crazies. I know I've been involved with some disagreements on this site, so I'm not claiming to always be perfect... but it just seems to me that one needs to sift through all the silly stuff on the CA site to find anything useful.

Third, I think it's awesome how active Rob and Co. are in these forums. It's a lot easier to connect with a business when you get to interact with them. Considering that Oz is on the other side of the planet, I'd say Rob hit a homerun with that aspect of his business. His passion for his business, cigars, fancy boots, and this community is very clear and obvious.

I check in on the CA forums every couple of months to see if anything's changed, but it's really on the FOH forums that mean anything to me. I don't post as much as some people and my knowledge of CCs if but a mere fraction of other people's, but I like it here.

Cheers,

~ Greg ~

Guys,This thread was going fine until started to become focused on CA-bashing. Please moderate yourselves on this point persuant to the " No denigration of other Forums" rule found in Rob's post, here

Plus I haven't got the time to be bothered to go elsewhere ,once you get to the top of Everest yo cannot go any higher

Interesting post Keith thanks for posting

Cheers all

Exactly. I am amazed how an interest in cigars started me here more than 5 years ago. It's an incredible bonus to have met and had a smoke with guys like Steve here. So far I have not been proven wrong that true cigar hobbyists let's say are a quality bunch.

I am a member of two other forums one of them being geared toward Canadians. I have to admit that i don't see/read anything wrong on these 2 forums. I still use them for NC's information as i still smoke them and i feel that FOH is not the place to ask for NC infos and i suppose this is kind of normal and i am not complaining aboit it. Just like another poster said before me, i have my place for NC's and i have my place for CC's

I have been a member at one other forum for a few years now and still really enjoy the place. After all, my membership there is what got me into cigars as a hobby. As my interest has grown I've gotten more and more into CCs. I get tired of all the marketing and gimmicks that I see a lot of NC companies putting out and frankly have very little desire to buy from most of them. Naturally, I found my way here and while I've only been active a very short time so far I really like the format and community.

I am a member of three forums 1 is just to buy sticks from others ( as I live in the middle of nowhere )

The 2 is my home it is were I found the world of Habanos then lead me to the third FOH now my home away from home

Been a member here for yonks. I used to frequent other forums in my thirst to vacuum up as much knowledge as possible particularly re CCs. But these days I feel like a FOG compared to many noobs here so i am not so interested in the cigar side and the latest 60RG LE. More interested in wine and whisky, but love to hang out here. Would love to see more frequent KBG / RA video reviews.

Thanks Rob, mods and all others who make a valuable contribution.

I am mostly active on an invite only cigar forum... I find it easier to interact as it has far fewer members online.

Here at FoH is a great source of information don't get me wrong... I participate where I can but can become overwhelmed with the amount of members posting on a big forum! I am also a member of a UK bass guitar forum - again like this place, big haha! I hardly post over there cause I just get lost in the wave of members :S it could be just me who is not a fan of crowded places... I do try to post, don't hate me!!
