TM-US Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Dos Mederas 5+5 us another very sweet rum. Much sweeter than Zacapa.
topdiesel Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I try to stay away from a lot of the sweet rums. Many of the producers add sugar after it is distilled to sweeten it up. Many Americans love sweet rum and buy more of it so many producers are more than happy to oblige. If I am drinking rum on the rocks or neat I prefer the taste or rum not sugar. Unlike cigars, I think many of the non-cuban rums are better than cuban rums
Habana Mike Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Used to love the Pyrat XO when it was made in Anguilla before Patron bought the brand out. Sipping a Guatemalan Botran Reserva just now and it's pretty good. Touch of sweet with just a little bite on the back end. Price is right too. Zaya and Zacapa are top rated. Try Zafra though, it's also a very nice rum.
cigardude Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 the sweetest rum I have had is the El Dorado 21......amazingly smooth and sweet, I think it would make an excellent after dinner drink.
Smiley Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I'd say Plantation Rhum from Barbados or Trinidad.
Knilas Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Had my first taste of Ron Zacapa 23 last weekend. Now I'm hooked on rum...gotta have some more! Unfortunately the state I live in bites when it comes to stocking the good stuff. On the hunt for Zaya, Diplomatico GR, more Zacapa 23!
Bulldog4 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I like all rum... if you can grab zaya or ron zacapa xo mmmm so good also el dorado 15 or 21 even prat is good
... Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Enjoy the Zacapa 23, Santiago 12 and a few others. The Vizcaya 21 is something worth trying; I'd say it's as flavourful and smooth as the others in its category but the taste is a bit more complex and the bouquet might be a tad nicer. Definitely one that shouldn't be overlooked
Skyfall Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 My local store has had Zaya on sale for $26.99 usd. I Stocked up! It's my go to! 1

dangolf18 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Legendario Elixir de Cuba is hands-down my favorite. Awesome honey notes. Zaya 12 yo is also a great choice..best bargain I know of.
Franko Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Zacapa XO hands down. So far my #1....... Pampero good one for the buck..
Cubanlightrumandcigars Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 And I think that many Cuban rums are much better than many other not Cubans who enjoy a lot of Fame and recognition, especially in the North American market, which let's be honest, is that less known qualities of what comes out of Cuba. If the US consumer, have access to the best Cuban reserves, would realize that there is a very large world to discover in the island for anyone who loves the rum, but we all know that by now, that is not possible. I try to stay away from a lot of the sweet rums. Many of the producers add sugar after it is distilled to sweeten it up. Many Americans love sweet rum and buy more of it so many producers are more than happy to oblige. If I am drinking rum on the rocks or neat I prefer the taste or rum not sugar. Hunter1974 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I found that "the Kraken" rum is very very sweet. A bit of kick to it but super sweet. yep but i am no rum expert but I really like the Kraken for sipping straight with a cigar
craigos Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Sweetest rum out there is the Diplomatico exclusiv reserva. I prefer it to the zacapa XO and is 25% the price.
JohnS Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I'm definitely no rum expert either, but I like my bourbon. It seems to me that Ron Zacapa is a nice sweet rum that I may be interested in picking up.
SofaKing Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Had some Zafra today, was great with one cube and neat. Had sweet notes similat to Diplomatico Reserva.
Kbb Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Zacapa 23 is kind of the go to sweet rum. It appeals to a lot of people. The current Zaya is good but leans more towards Captain Morgan Private Stock. Ever since it was bought out by Angostura it has taken on a more sweet vanilla influence. That was around 2008. The old Zaya was made in Guatemala like the current Zacapa and was a completely different profile (more depth of flavor imho). The Bacardi 8 has a sweetness to it that reminds me of fruit (mainly bananas) and goes well with cigars. There seems to be plenty of supply even though Bacardi sold off their Bahamas distillery several years back. Just my 2 cents.
