All this talk of glorious Churchill smokes in the dead of winter for us northern US Yanks....pure torture Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a box of RUM JUL 18 from our host. Haven’t smoked any yet but they look decent. One is terribly underfilled and two have a crack at the cap which my be due to fragile wrapper and overfilling. B

I've had the pleasure of smoking from a 1975/76 "Green Box" of Sir Winnies.  I acquired them back in 2011 and they are a brilliant smoke.  I've also had a handful of 2009's and smoked them all.  They

Smoking one this afternoon...is there anything close in the world of Churchills for sheer tobacco goodness or complexity? Great Esplendido come close...but even young, Winston reins supreme cigar.gif

I had one Sir Winnie from 2003 (May 2003, "KNA" box code) that was traded for from Chris a year or two ago now, and smoked just back in June or so - it was amazingly epic and well refined, having just crossed the decade-of-age mark, and definitely suiting the legend. If all Sir Winnies were like that, then I'd fully agree.

But, as most Sir Winnies I've smoked haven't had more than 5 to 7 years on them, I'd say my order of preference as it currently stands would be QdO Imperiales, then Cohiba Espy's, then Sir Winnies.

Definitely on the top of my list for the larger vitolas (old style larger, not the recent RG monsters!)

One I keep around and savor from time to time. Can't go wrong with these when you have the time and inclination.

Work less, or introduce smoking while working.

Cant smoke at my work place and less hours isnt an option unfortunatly, ah well, its not the end of the world. It just so happens we have had a cheeky hot day today, so when I get home I will be cutting the grass while treating myself to something out the 'box' peace.gif

I have an opinion fallowed by a question. Smoking cigars is supposed to be for pleasure, so I find smoking larger/longer/bigger cigars to make more sense than rushing a small vitola. After all we are smoking cigars not cigarettes, although the smaller vitolas do serve their purpose for flavor and experience.

My question is, these cigars seem to be rare and in super high demand, so when they do become available how are they distributed?

The one I smoked today was fabulous. I'm not sure of the box date because it was a gift. I have often wondered why the SW's cost so much more than other Churchills.

I just Ordered a Box. Never Tried one before but heard they are phenomenal....damn the anticipation!

I'm with you on this one Prez. I enjoy a winnie over a espy. Don't get me wrong the espys are great cigars, just a personal preference.

I bought a box last time they came up here and haven't regretted that purchase! prior to that I traded for a 5'er on another forum to try them....been sold on them ever since.party.gif

My apologies on rehashing this old thread, but I'm curious.....

1) When was the latest release of Sir Winnies?

2) When will we see more?

3) Historically, what do y'all say were good years and box codes?

4) When it comes to iconic "limited" regular productions, like this one, are all the boxes pretty much amazing?

They were in production last fall. I have a box code MOL SEP 18. Quite a few guys were finding them in Cuba that time of year.

As to the rest of your questions, I have no idea. There are some examples of nice boxes for limited regular production boxes, such as the Monte Linea line, or the Behike, (some might argue that they are not in regular production at all). However, there are others, like the HU Connie B, and other LCDH offerings, where the boxes are nothing special.

I recently asked @Elpresidente about current availability and when we might see some more, and he replied:

"That run (3rd qtr 18) has ended. None being produced in havana currently as far as i know. June-sep 19 I suspect."

So we have a wait for new supply.

Cheers

I have about 2/3 of my ONE box left. Yes, the are fantastic!

One does need to sit, and take the time to savour one of these!

I have 2017 and 2018 boxes and they are still around some of the popular grey market vendors.

As for question 4, no - you can definitely get bad boxes of an iconic release. Case in point, one of my 2018 Sir Winston boxes has at least 8 terribly overfilled sticks in it. Perfecdraw to the rescue ;)

Be careful on the Sir Winstons got three boxes last year and they were all way too tightly rolled, plugged, a real travesty. Maybe it was luck of the draw, but it seems as if long and slender seems to be an issue with the rollers.

codes were: TPO JUN 17 and TRU JUL17

Good to know. Thanks, guys!!

I recently watched @JohnSand @Luca’s video review of the Winnies, and my interest is piqued to say the least. I have found boxes of RUM AGO 17/18 for sale. But with the type of coin a box of these cost, I don’t know if it’s worth the risk.

Anyone have experience with the above box codes?

No not technically. They're Double Coronas but I lumped them in with the others because they're in the 7 inch range and late 40s ring gauge.

I have a box with the exact same code and I haven't tried one yet either. I will be interested to see what you think when you finally fire one up. I'll test the first one from my box once the weather warms up enough here to comfortably smoke outside.

I think the vitola can qualify as a "long and skinny" these days given the amount of > 50RG smokes Habanos is releasing.

That is concerning to hear - I have a box of TRU AGO 18 that I picked up in Havana. I haven’t smoked any yet, but they all feel just right when pressed. The proof will just have to be in the pudding when I light one over the summer.
