CanuckSARTech
Hey all, I was considering putting this in the "trading room" section, but this is more just to get a viewpoint - nothing's for sale or for trade at this point. From my last Cuba trip, I have a number of Cuban licence plates for cars (properly bought and exported). I was going to put them up in my garage, but right now they're just gathering dust. So, I've been considering listing them on eBay or Kijiji for sale. But I have some questions if there's any members here who have bought or sold similar items.... Any idea on value? I've seen some "vintage" Cuban plates listed on eBay before, and they're for $90 to $200 (and with USNB Guantanamo plates being exponentially more usually). But those have usually been in different states of quality, with most fairly banged up. These are actual plates, not the touristy stamped-tin reproductions, and are new/original/current. Does that help or hurt the value at all? Will eBay or Kijiji even allow these sorts of items to be listed, due to their Cuban embargo rules? Is there a particular wording that would allow these to be listed?
Profmd
Nice looking plates! I've had a few older ones and sold the on eBay with no probs. considering your Canadian and signed up for eBay living in Canada all should be well. That was quite a few years ago, but you will know right off the bat if they aren't allowing the listing. eBay will pull it and message you. You could list them just in eBay.ca also. If you are considering it let me know. I wouldn't mind having one in such great shape in my "Man Cave" Jeff
Guest rob
Not intending to be controversial, Keith - but when buying on the island, how do you identify the legit ones as opposed to touristy fake ones?
CanuckSARTech
114 results on eBay: http://m.ebay.com/se...d=417&mfs=KWCLK LOL. Not intending to be controversial, Keith - but when buying on the island, how do you identify the legit ones as opposed to touristy fake ones? Not at all, mate. Perfect question. With the above quoted link as an example, check out the following "tourist replicas".... http://www.ebay.com/...=item258069bae4 http://www.ebay.com/...=item258069c15f Replicas are all over the place. I've noticed it's that, or the pre-embargo vintage plates, that are beat up to all get up. The newer original ones (it's slightly visible in my picture) have almost a laser-inscribed dot-matrix-style part numbering to the upper left-hand corner of the plates, just above the first letter (most visible on the middle plate in that picture). I basically bought mine as a foreigner, but for legit use on a current vehicle in Cuba if you'd like (you'd just need to register them for your vehicle). They're actual new plates (and, lol, not ones stolen off of vehicles from a side street in the dead of night). ....at least that I was told. dpodiluk
I would be very hesitant to put them on ebay, even if you put them on the Canadian site still owned by Americans along with pay pal and we all know how happy they are at closing accounts and confiscating funds. I would be interested in a yellow one if your looking to sell them

CanuckSARTech
Sorry guys. Not really meaning this as a sales pitch. Just looking for some steering advice for eBay / Kijiji with these.
Nino
Keith, I wonder what you mean by "(properly bought and exported)" as my information is that no original licence plates can be bought or exported by tourists ( it's difficult ). You're right, all you see in Cuba are the fake tourist licence plates. I'd say that the value of your plates is in the range you mention, due to all these facts, especially having them in such pristine condition. Guess you wouln't need to go to e-bay - FoH would do. I have a genuine yellow plate found in the street after a hurricane .... :-) It's in the pharmacy now. Have tried to get some more but hard to find real ones in HAV. CanuckSARTech
Thanks for the feedback and further advice, all. Fingers crossed. And after some of my research on these items, looks like these could be some of the end of them. It appears that Cuba is changing over it's license plates from 2013 onwards????: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Cuba http://www.juventudrebelde.cu/cuba/2013-04-28/la-chapa-que-viene/
dpodiluk
I don't like those new plates. Now i have to think extra hard on those lovely yellow plates.
Nino
Wow, they are adopting the German plate & print model - will look ugly on the vintage cars in Cuba and besides : The Cuban plates were square, these are long, will look even uglier ... :-(( Will see I get myself some more old plates now ..
