Starting price is $65k, but you know with Audi, you'll be adding a bucket load of options. Though, the new model won't be out until the end of the year.

Doesn't tick the price box at $120k.

Wow this is insane. For comparison. The S3 starts at 38k EUR and the A45 AMG at 48K EUR.

Forget Porsche if you want an understatement car that can torch a Porsche get the Audi RS4. Plus it is much "cheaper" than a Porsche. I used to drive one. Loved it.

I guess that means even second-hand, most of the really heavy Euro stuff is going to be megabucks. Otherwise, I'd suggest a BMW M135i. The Minis are fun to drive, but they're overly stylized IMO and not worth the price if your'e talking Aussie prices. What does a R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R run down there? What about a Subaru WRX STi Spec-C or one of the special editions- S204, S205?

BMW M135i starting price is $68k

2nd hand R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R from $17k to $99k (mid range for a decent import $40k)

Suburu WRX STi starting price is $60k

Rob click on the link below! I think this may be perfect for you needs and price point. It literally ticks every box on your list. You should go test drive one ASAP. They are also easily modded if you want to tweak anything.

Maybe he posted that later on, but it's worth a look. Back seats in these small two doors are not usable, especially since his kids are grown. It has a small trunk for dry cleaning or groceries.

Wow, I thought I was lucky driving 1 of the 2500 total B7 RS4 made back while I was still in college in '06. That's awesome you got to own one. It was a very HTF car that year, I believe only 200 were available, then more were made later.

My list would include:

* BMW Z4 convertible (maybe used)

* BMW 1 series with big engine

* Toyota/Scion FR-S

* Porsche 911 (older, maybe classic from 1960s)

* Nissan 370 ZX with spoiler

Otherwise, I might think about something old and classic that's as much fun for what it is as what it can do now (late 1950s American, Cuban style). Or a Karman Ghia or old Jag.

Ok. Here is an idea. Pick up one of these and repaint it to look like a stogie. You change the band to the marca of your choice. Then write off the cost as a business expense, use it to pick up your dry cleaning and pay for the Mini JCW Roadster out of your pocket.

I say go for the Porsche Boxster. 2 doors and top down, fits your bill. If you need a bit more oomph, you can rechip it or change the exhaust.

That Mini Roadster has got the be the ugliest thing on wheels since the Fiat 500L

I wouldn't call that car exactly pretty either ;)

It's funny that people are still giving suggestions that are way out of the price range.

Boxster S? Another Aussie mentioned it's $120k.

135i? That's something crazy, like north of $60k.

370Z? That's also north of $70k.

Vintage 911? Long hood cars are more than $40-60k here in the US, must be a ton more in Oz.

Lotus? Again, really?

I agree with the Miata suggestion, but if Rob needs a back seat for carrying stuff, that's not going to work. I'd go with the second-hand R34 GT-R, because it's a beast and it is legendary, but insurance and fuel costs might be astronomical.

The only way to make the Golf stand out would be to mod it with maybe a vinyl wrap. Then it would stand out amongst a sea of other Golfs.
