I go for the midrange in cars as far as price goes. I'm a bit on the frugal side, so even though I can afford a high end Mercedes or a Porsche, I tend to go for dependable mid-range cars. My last car I bought was a Hyundai Elantra which is sporty and great on gas not to mention its 10 year 100K mile warramty. After all, my viewpoint on cars is solely from going from point A to point B. Its what you do at Point B that matters.

What's wrong with a PreOwned Holden Monaro VXRR? They can't cost that much in OZ. They are dirt cheap in the US but sold as Pontiac GTOs. That car is fast as hell, with headers and a Corsa exaust will growl with a blip of the throttle, and will put a smile on your face.

But then again, if you are a bachelor, you might want to get something with a bit more bling. I would then go for one of those sporty Lexus IS thingies. Small, sporty, etc. Throw some rims on there, tint, booya!

I drive a Hyundai Genesis Coupe with the 2.0 turbo in it. Its a blast. The engine is essentially the same as a mitsubishi evo. Its fun.

I have to smile looking at it as well as driving it. A car that performs like a go cart even at 60 kmh. I enjoy that aspect given the majority of time in this city it is the speed you will be doing....so you might as well enjoy it.

1400 1600 2L I don't mind. It needs to have personality. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Manual. It is a car to be driven.

and Dara....if it is not a convertible..it will have a hell of a moonroof. One of the great enjoyments of life is having a cigar while you drive along in an open top.

Dont buy the old Ferraris, half the time you'll be spending in the workshop. I mean if you are buying a Ferrari make sure you'll be able to enjoy it at the very least. If you are really into vintage or restoring cars then go for it otherwise its not worth the hassle.

If you need a back seat in that 2 seater, that eliminates pretty much all of the sports cars mentioned in this thread.

Actually forget that- I just checked; you can buy Renaults in Oz. The Renault Sport Megane 265RS Trophy+ looks like an awesome ride- 265 bhp, 6 speed manual, very sporty- Cup suspension, available Recaro seats, 19" wheels, bixenon lights, parking sensors. I would get one of those- looks to be around $42-43k in Oz. Those optional Recaros are the Speedster CS- great seats, very comfortable, very supportive, next best thing to a fixed back shell. They also look awesome.

I would also consider the VW Scirocco R- great looking car, although it's still based on the old Mk. 6 platform. A lot more money, though- looks to be $55k.

I guess that means even second-hand, most of the really heavy Euro stuff is going to be megabucks. Otherwise, I'd suggest a BMW M135i. The Minis are fun to drive, but they're overly stylized IMO and not worth the price if your'e talking Aussie prices. What does a R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R run down there? What about a Subaru WRX STi Spec-C or one of the special editions- S204, S205?
