El Presidente Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I have had my Jeep JK Diesal for coming up to 7 years and it will be retired to the warehouse and undergo a lift, bulbar treatment and a few engine tweaks. it will be used as a fine weather 4x4 for roof off trips along the islands and whenever I need a larger car to tow the trailer or take the kids away. So I am looking for an absolute pocket rocket as a daily driver that puts a smile on your face every time you jump in. Requirements: Two door. Fits like a glove Turns on a dime Great muffler growl Attractive interior Different. Not perfect but you look forward to jumping in every day. 60K or under (40 K USD) What should I be looking for?
Phillys Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Rob what is your height? this might greatly impact the answers.
Jeremy Festa Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Mate, You mention pocket rocket and turns on a dime? Well for fun factor, I would say a Mini with the John Cooper Works package! Top of the line spec is around 55k, I think. It is like go-karting on the road. Whatever speed you a doing at any point in time, it will take round the corner.
El Presidente Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Rob what is your height? this might greatly impact the answers. 6 ft
scradley Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 are you looking new or used? Toyota FT-86 (scion frs) (subaru brz) whatever it may be called in Australia, its not going to rip your face off with speed but they're an absolute blast to drive.
Duxnutz Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 We've got a Polo GTI but greatly miss the Cooper S we owned previously! In my mind VW make good cars (gearbox recall excluded) but its more of an appliance than a Mini.
El Presidente Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Will test drive most of those. Had a ride recently in a Fiat Arbath 695 that blew me away.
Paneotto Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Megane 265 RS. Not sure about price but it is a damn rocket and will out handle anything in its class and quite a few above it.

I agree but if you willing to go to a four door the subaru wrx STI is a blast to drive. Mine puts a smile on my face every day when the turbo boost kicks in. Other options could be an Infiniti g37 coupe or BMW 335i coupe if your looking slightly used
Reevzy Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Ohh yeeeaahh! You haven't had fun in life until you've caned a Cooper. Squeeze into one of those Rob and thank me later!

He had a lot of issues with it though his was a lemon (cracked piston from factory)
MIKA27 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Easy: 2013 VW Golf GTI +1 Can't go wrong with a GTi Or Renault Megane RS
Tan1801 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I would assume new or close to? If hot hatch I would prob go the Megane RS. Coupe, the BRZ/FT86 is the only thing in that price range (unless you go convertible and get a mx5). Might be able to get a BMW 135 second hand in that price range. If you don't mind older cars, that would become a different story.
Colt45 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Honda Accord Coupe, the new 2014 Mazdas (not necessarily 2 doors) - plenty to choose from. Might not get the exhaust growl stock, but any tuner kid exhaust will fix that. If you really want to feed the mid-life crisis, spend a little extra dough and go for a 2014 Corvette.
Drguano Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Here are three options. Two from Guano's Slightly Used cars and what I would get, the new Mini Roadster
Fuzz Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 FT86 has a 1 yr waiting list in Aus, unless you're willing to take floor models. A friend has been waiting for her's to arrive for just under a year. Have you thought about a Lotus Elise? There's one with less than 10k on the clock going for $63k http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Lotus-Elise-2012/AGC-AD-14095570/?Cr=0 Or perhaps a Mercedes A45? Though a touch higher than you're willing to spend at $75k. Or head over to these local boys in Yatala and see what they have in stock http://www.bulletcars.com/cars/for-sale.html

Random Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 FT-86 ? fast? Nope, 7,5 sec 0-60. Cheap interior. Headlitghts look like its a ricer. Megan RS Civic SiR Subi WRX Golf R Cooper John Works or even a slightly used Boxter/Cayman or if you want a great style - Alfa Romeo Julietta Distinctive
SCgarman Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Chevrolet Camaro or corvette would do the trick if you can afford to feed an American V8 the gasoline it needs, lol. Sorry but I am biased towards American muscle power.
Skyfall Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Forget all of these other "Toys" and "Drifters" mentioned. Get some classic muscle that will turn heads! 2014 Ford Mustang GT 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe 2014 Chevrolet Corvette FOR THE WIN!
vanbellc Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Another vote for the BMW 335i, but make it a convertible.
