Worst box of cigars you own.....

Recommended Posts

I hate to say it, but a box of Partagas 2010 EL. When this cigar is good I love it, but this particular box is horrible. I think it was stored poorly because the wrappers are pretty devoid of oils. My other boxes have been far superior.

A regular production box that has been lackluster has more to do with with it's age, but I have a box of 2012 PL Montecarlos that are sour. It's almost like smoking a lemon peel. It is most like the blend working itself out, but they aren't enjoyable to smoke yet.

The worst ones I own, are the empty ones! Since I've been letting the Prez pick most of them for me, they have all been stunning! (Boy does that ever sound like brown-nosing after reading) ;-)

I have a box of 10 Short Churchills, well now 8, and they have a light thin tan wrapper you can see the green binder through--have a feeling they aren't coming back.  Ugly as hell.  Taste terrible, te

That's funny.

A 10 count box of Monte 2 from May 2009. Smoked 8 of them and only 1 was slightly enjoyable. The other 7 were completely void of flavor. The wrappers are very pale and dry in appearance.

El Rey de Mundo Crap Supreme - sour bitter and that is the best part of the flavor profile

What you describe is a recurring problem with that cigar - I believe people don't mention it often because it's a "cheapo" (=it's not good? Bin it and try the next one in the box…)

Try to smoke them at a completely different RH (7 or 8% drier or wetter than your usual RH), or age them "the fast way" by stocking them out from their box, in the desktop humidor that you open the more often.

I've not had any bad experience with the h&f stuff personally and surprised to read the bad reviews about the choix, I've never had a bad one. I would definitely stock a couple of boxes.

You are a self admitted RASS lover and so am I. Bought a box of Choix Supremes from the czar based on great compliments of the cigar. These things are really flavorless. Not even in the same league as the RASS, and definitely the worst box of Cubans I have in my humidor. Waste of money, IMHO

We are rass bros there is no doubt about that. I don't like mild smokes but I do enjoy the cs as they have enough going on to keep me interested and they are great when I require a change of pace. I think you just got a dud box like my upmann 2s. If I had some I would send you a couple to smoke.

I will take your advice. I have loved the Montecarlos that were "on" and I don't necessarily think the lemon peel flavors I am getting are a bad thing for long term aging because THERE IS flavor. I will throw 5 in my desktop and see if it helps out. I keep my desktop at 56-58% rh and my long term storage wineador at 62-65% (from bottom to top).

That is a tough one. Had a box of RASS that was horrid, I gave most away to friends. Bought 3 boxes of Dip 2's a few years back. Two are pretty solid but one box is completely dead of any flavor whatsoever. But I would have to say the worst box I have by far is two boxes of Upman 46's.

I love the upman brand. Sir winnes and the up #2 are two of my favorite cigars. But for some reason the 46's taste like crap to me and after a third of the smoke I toss them everytime. One of my smoking buddies who does not have too great a pallet even tosses them.

Time cures many of these ills.

Many Upmanns are tasty when fresh, then go off for years.

My '04 and '05 46s are just starting to come around.

I'm glad that i still have most of them left.

'08s and '09 are totally shut down.

PL is another marca that needs patience.

I thought that my cab of '07 PCs was my worst buy ever,

Now they are like butterflies just out of their coccoon.

One smoked a few days ago was fantastic.

The Montecarlos and even the Panetelas need 4-5 years to really show their stuff.

I also, for years, despaired of my '04 RA Gigantes, and SC '01 El Morros,

both purchased fresh. They are now among my most precious smokes.

I could cite many more examples.

The point is, don't despair, or dump a box that doesn't perform to your expectations.

Sock it away; maybe try one every 6-12 months.

You may end up very pleasantly surprised.

I won't go into tent pegs from 99-02. The worst box since then were the Trinidad Robusto Ts. Talk about loose drawing wind tunnels. Just awful. I hate a loose cigar. And, while age and good storage can mitigate some of the problems from too tight a cigar nothing can fix under filled cigars.

50 cab HUP Mag 46 USE Sep 08. Devoid of oils on wrapper. Tastes dry and like newspaper. Provenance is 100% but I believe bad storage as well. Shame its all 50 cigars that are bad. Dunno if I would buy a 50 cab of anything again because of this.

Siglo II's almost the whole box of smokes were plugged. When I told the vendor with whom I bought the box (not Czar)

he told me I was the second person who had a problem with the Siglo II's and he promised to make it up on my next

order which he did. Know matter what I tried, frig. skewer, dry box nothing worked. The thing that stood

out about them was the fact that they were very heavy (per cigar) and seemed to be rolled with a lot of leaf and

rolled very tightly. Could bearly get the size (dia.) of a paper clip through the foot and further into the cigar.

Bad day at the "Little Big Horn" for me. Where ever they roll Siglo II's in Cuba I pray that no other B/SOTL have

this problem. Anyway, the RE's/LE's that I bought from Spain are working very well and my hurt wallet/heart

are fading in the smoke of a La Gloria Cubana INMENSOS as we speak.

Hands down this box of 2000 SLR Churchills. Mostly devoid of flavor, fireproof wrappers and draw like a brick.

Otherwise not a terrible cigar....

X2 on this. A brutal box.

I get strange looks when I mention this cigar as my least favorite but... I bought 2 boxes of BBF's that have forever tainted me from this cigar that others love. Not a single cigar that I enjoyed from those 2 boxes....and I love the Bolivar line.

Bought a box of BRCs via duty free. Well constructed, but very dry wrappers. Nil taste whatsoever, I think I'd get more from secondhand smoke. After a few more months in the humidor they at least smell better, but I'm filing them under "chop 'em up into discs and use as pipe tobacco", if they don't improve.

  • 1 year later...

Unfortunately for me, it appears that the worst boxes I own are the CCs I bought before coming to FOH/*****INT. The construction of the boxes (Monte 2 and Party 2) were solid, but draws were labored and flavor severely lacking. I'm glad that they were just bad cigars and I didn't let them taint my experience of CCs, because if I had I would definitely not be ordering more boxes.

This is exactly my fear on pulling the trigger on a box of PLPC, 50 bad cigars is devastating.

I have a box of cigars I won at an event put on by a local B&M. It's a box of Perdomo something or other, like 60 ring gauge. Tried one, hated it, waited 6 months or so, tried another, hated it. Probably won't try any more. Anyone want a box of Perdomo something or other?
