because it is worth it.

To the lawyers,the longer the drag it out the more money they make.

That's what I always say - and it's true. In the end, it was only money (lots of it in my case).

Wedding = Expensive

Married = Expensive

Divorce = Expensive

Single = Worryfree.

I will run this through some algorithms and let you all know what the answer is. If someone figures it out before me, please attach your post doctorate thesis in this thread. About 3 billion people await your reply.

California has no fault divorce and it is a community property state. The divorcing couple splits everything acquired since the wedding day 50/50. Any marriage over 10 years is considered a long term marriage and the spouse paying support is obligated to pay support until he dies or retires, or she dies or remarries.

Incorrect, my friend. I was married for 10 years, paid alimony for 5. Lifetime alimony is no longer awarded by default in California and hasn't been for quite a while.

Technically you are correct, but the spouse earning less income retains the right to be paid alimony for as long as he or she needs, and as long as the paying spouse can continue to pay. The Court makes the final decision. In my case she was awarded lifetime support, but I can hire an attorney at any time and request a change if her circumstances change. I hope that I do as well as you.

I should've always listened when I was told about the 3 rings.. The engagement ring, the wedding ring, and last but not least, the suffering.

I recall a conversation with one of our clients who went through a divorce which did involve a couple of hundred million, so not a little thing. Anyway the long and short of it is that she got most of it even though he had built the empire. He never seemed to distressed about it and when I asked him what happened for her to get all this money, his simple response was, "I had good lawyers, she walked in with QCs." rotfl.gif

You need to get back in front of a judge stat - while the judge can decide pretty much anything he wants, you can absolutely appeal if you got screwed. My Ex was a housewife when we divorced (had been for several years) and I still only paid for the customary 50% of marriage duration.

Simple analogy:

Lawyers - Sharks

Good Lawyers - Great White Sharks

QCs - Great White Sharks with Lasers

This being said, there is something special about watching a true master perform his craft...its easy to get caught up in the expense but i was reminded very quickly on Thursday why my lawyer makes the money he does, truely a master at what he does, thank goodness lol!
