JohnS Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I'm a huge Rye fan, especially in my Sazeracs and Manhattan cocktails. I was mildly surprised how good the Bulleit Rye was, and I have enjoyed Wild Turkey 101 Rye (currently available as 90 Proof in Australia). I'm currently (slowly) going through Rittenhouse for my drinks.
JohnS Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 WT101 rye is great stuff. I agree, as far as I understand for the US market, it's not bad value. According to the article below, the 101 saw a lot of demand so the proof was changed to allow the distillers to make some more. http://whiskeylately.com/rye/wild-turkey-101-rye/ Apparently, it's available in the US since mid-2014, in limited supply. The US Wild Turkey site lists their available rye as 81 proof, possibly because the 101 proof is hard to locate. The Australian Wild Turkey site lists their rye as 90 proof. http://www.wildturkeybourbon.com.au/full-strength-range-full In my humble opinion, it's worth checking out as an alternative to Rittenhouse or Sazerac, just for a change, if you love Rye whiskey.
SmittyinAZ Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Just really getting into whisky's. Love love love Rye IPA beers so time to jump into the Rye Whisky pool. Thanks for a lot of suggestions mentioned here. Smitty
free85 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I'm a fan of the stuff during summer (the Bulleit in particular). It's a little sweet for my tastes as of late. I am happy that we're seeing it become more popular because they're making more of it available... which leads to excuses to have a taste of something new.
JohnS Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I found the Bulleit Rye also slighter sweeter than other rye whiskies that I've sampled. I still very much enjoyed it though.

Wanted to see what the fuss was all about and got a bottle. I can say that I am pleasantly surprised, lots of herbaceous notes in this one, I can pick out the dill and lemon. tgould55 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I'm a big rye guy. Go-tos are: Redemption, Whistlepig, and High West Double Rye. Also, someone mentioned High West above as well. They're putting out some of my favorite whiskies. Midwinter Night's Dram, Campfire, and Son of Bourye are three of my all-time favorites for sure.
