David67 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 This is going to sound strange for someone who has smoked cigars as long as me but there are many brands that I have not tried much of. One such brand is Saint Luis Rey. My cousin gave me one of their cigars to smoke yesterday, a Robusto I reckon. It was probable only the secound I have ever had of this brand, if at all. I did love the full flavour of it. Can anyone recommend cigars from the Saint Luis Rey range? Rob if you see this you know I would love to know your thoughts on this one.
ritan Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 SLR has a very succinct offering - the Regios, the Serie A and the double coronas. My opinion is that you just cannot go wrong with any of the regular production. Having said that, the Pacificos is a luscious, decadent cigar with flavors amplified. Start with the regular production but treat yourself to a HQ box of the Pacificos when you can.
bassman Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Ten years ago, SLR was my favorite brand. I had more Serie A than any other cigar. Today my taste and possibly the blend has changed. I like the 07 & 09 DCs. That's about it. Old PCs are good if you can find any.
davidsan Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I really enjoy the SLR DC, had a couple HQ from Rob last year and they were stellar
sengjc Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Serie A for regular enjoyment. Double Corona for the long haul. Pacificos for the special occasions in between.
Dimmers Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Have fallen in love with the Pacificos, so am also keen to explore the marca further
laficion Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 In my humble advise, try the Serie A and then the Robusto.
Troels Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Had a '12 dc recently that was very enjoyable and made me want to buy more
Hafner32 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I had a SLR Pacifico last night that was quite good. A little more flavor than the Regios I tried last week. I haven't tried the Serie A but I hope to correct that this week.
bstarrs Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I really enjoy the Regios. They are great yound and have a nice unique taste.
qman22 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I've have boxes of the Serie A and Regios and really like them both. If I had to pick one, I would go with Serie A
finecigar Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 My favorite of SLR is the Regios, yet have experienced nothing but good things with other vitolas in their range. It surely isn't my most favorite marca, but not unpleasant at all! Also, from time to time I smoke a great SLR DC, but I do prefer other DCs.
ramon_cojones Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Think I've had a dc before but I haven't smoked hardly any recent stuff. The 98 lonsdales are fantastic, such a shame.
ChanceSchmerr Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Apparently it was Frank Sinatra's Havana marca of choice. It's one of mine too. The PC's are my current "White Whale"/Holy Grail. I would suggest trying all the current 3 vitolas, but also try the Corona and PC if you can find them. The Corona needs 5+ years, but once it's rested, it is relentlessly flavoured!
PaulP Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Love the SLR churchill but alas it has been discontinued.
jazzbass Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Smoked a SLR Double Corona ( '00 ) yesterday in the car. 13 yrs old and tasted very smooth. A great Cuban brand.

Chris, you'll have to remind me of your white whales prior to the Havana trip later on this year. I think I remember seeing some SLR PC's, but I can't be sure. We found lots of hidden gems while down there.
dan5974 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Very underated. You cant go wrong with any of the marca. The Serie A is my favorite due to size.
mk05 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I'm also not experienced in SLR; is this a marca that needs significant time before it's enjoyable? My '01 A's are just getting good now, and seems the older stuff is much friendlier on the palate than the young ones.
sengjc Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 98 Lonsdales are to die for in cabs Pretty hard to find those though.
