1st Day of retirement

Recommended Posts

First day of retirement today after 40 years with the same company.

Not sure the my kids will be able to say that with today's economy.

Got up a little later than usual, ( harder to do than you might think)

Nice day so had a coffee and read the morning paper out on the patio.

Finished a CORO, it was excellent.

Never had time for a weekday morning paper or smoke before.

Looking forward to this next stage in my life.

If retired, what was your first day like.

If not retired, do you have a plan?

Murri,

Congrats on your retirement. I left in mid February and wifey retires next month.

So far not enjoying as much as I should due to trying to sell the house and prepping for the big move to Florida.

I suspect once we are settled, things will be a lot better. But even now it beats going into the office and dealing with the BS.

Best of luck!!!

Congrats!

The way I am spending, I will be working until I am in my grave - but my kids will inherit a very nice cigar collection :lookaround:

Congrats Murri biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

My fist day will be in a hammock somewhere in central America listening to the rolling surf. Off to the beach cantina at 11am for a quick drink and a cigar, gently kick away the chickens on the floor and pull a stool. Light lunch at the bar of scored sambal snapper and salad. Maria the barmaid will entertain me of happenings in the village. Back to the hammock for a siesta with the person I love. Fly fish the receding tide in the afternoon. Tie some flies in the evening while Conchita the housekeeper cooks up black beans and rice, enjoyed overlooking sunset. A cigar and a cuddle.

40 years with the same company is a great achievement both on the part of the employee and the employer, enjoy!

Congrats Murri,

I have 17 year to go and I am retiring as soon as that day comes. I am trying to simplify my life now and save so that I can definitely retire when the time comes.

Have fun and enjoy your retirement!!!!

Congratulations !!! I retired from my first career in NYC after 20 years in July of 2003 and my wife and i moved to Florida six months later. i had been accepted at the university of Miami medical school to become a Dr of physical Therapy Three weeks after I closed on my house, I received an offer to come back up for "@ a year" to work as a consultant on a large IT and construction project and have been traveling back and forth every other week for the last 9+ years with probably another 4-5 years before we finish. It was completely unexpected and even though I had to give up on my plans to become a DPT it turned out to be an amazing opportunity that has helped make our dreams a reality. I look forward to the future day when I will just stop and plan my days around family and friends ( though that hammock in Central America sounds really good!)

So, when you retire, does your daily cigar rate go up? Do you start earlier in the day? Are there breakfast cigars, lunch, dinner, brunch on Sundays? Perhaps a blog would advise us on this perplexing issue.
