charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Texas Monthly's new list of top 50 BBQ joints in Texas only has two listed for the San Antonio area , and they are: The Granary 'Cue and Brew Two Bros. BBQ Market ......I've never been there, so can't comment. Sounds good. I really appreciate the tips. It help to have so many friends on FOH!!
charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 looks like the BBQ is covered. Yummm, I love Texas BBQ!!!! Glad I live here!!! And for breakfast, def go to Pancake Haus. This is what I had last week when I was visiting my sister. My goodness! Yumm! I'll really try to make it.
charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 If your strapped for time and need a place close to where you're staying you may want to try Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q just 6 miles away. Voted best BBQ in San Antonio by the people who live in San Antonio. 24152 W. IH 10 San Antonio, TX 78257 Excellent. Thank you!
charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Nothing wrong with local chains. If by chain, you mean more than one location. Coopers is now a chain, Salt Lick is now a chain, Smokey Mo's is the only decent BBQ in San Antonio, the fact that they have expanded locations, doesn't mean the BBQ isn't good for San Antonio selection compared to others in the area. I highly suggest next time you are in Lockhart to get the Beef Rib at Blacks!!!! If you are a pure Brisket man, have you eaten the Brisket at Franklins yet? Looks outstanding!
charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Smoky Mos is a chain. So PASS Your list is fine. I never disputed Blacks. I prefer City Market for overall ambiance. Blacks might have a decade or two on City Market but not fifty years. Please don't confuse City Market with Luling City Market in Houston (an understandable mistake). http://www.houstonpr...identity-theft/ I only eat brisket. I have other sources for sausage, ribs, barbacoa, etc. etc. I haven't tried the Waco spots yet. I agree that Rudy's is not great. Virgies in Houston is putting out excellent brisket. Fargo's Pit BBQ in Bryan is also stellar. Sounds good. I appreciate the advice!
charlesod Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Fantastic Mexican cuisine can be found at Hugo's in Houston. Drive over here and dinner is on me. !!!
mk05 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Smoky Mos is a chain. So PASS I can't believe you missed my joke
bugman78629 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 If you travel about 74 milesEast to Luling, Texas......make sure you visit "Luling City Market BBQ"; you won't regret it!!!! Or visit Gonzales, Texas- "Gonzales Meat Market", and try their World Famous sausage.........OUTSTANDING FOOD!!!!!
bugman78629 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 This is Richard Lopez, Owner of the Gonzales Meat Market. I became good friends with Richard; really down-to-earth guy. I lived in Gonzales, Texas for 7 1/2 years, and there is something "Magical" about their food........ I highly recommend you go out-of your way to taste this food; you won't regret it!! If you go; tell him Ed Silva says Hello....... I was the local Pest Control Guy there for years...
khomeinist Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I can't believe you missed my joke Who says I did? Perhaps I was merely elucidating the opaque irony.....

charlesod Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 YardHouse!!!!!!! If I can get in, I'm there tonight.
TexAg Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 If you have a car, definitely hop on IH-10 and head to Luling City Market. If not, then the Rudy's over by Leon Springs Dance Hall is amazing. I grew up in Seguin (right east of SA) so I spent a good amount of time over there. New Braunfels, north of IH-35, has a few decent BBQ places as well.
charlesod Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Ok. I'm at the Yard House. Ordered blue crab cakes and a 10oz pepper encrusted filet. More to come.
