Jnaube Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I have a box from each at home from 09... love the Genios and even the Magicos. Complex cigarswith rich aromas. I personnaly think the Secretos is a waste of my time and money. For the rest, you will always find some people telling this and that about Cohiba. You either like the or you don't. So to answer your question Rob, I say success.
tmac77 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 The only one that I really like from this line is the Genios. However at the price point that these go for I would call it a fail.
Bartolomeo Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I have had all 3, did nothing for me I would say a success since they are still around........but so is the Monte Open series as well Bart
nick2021 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Haven't had one but it's definitely up on my list of "to-try" cigars....definitely seems to be a cigar that you either love or hate.
nick2021 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I have had all 3, did nothing for me I would say a success since they are still around........but so is the Monte Open series as well Bart™ lol, x2 on that!
frenchkiwi Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I think that although the idea for the line is copy-pasted from NC marketing textbooks, it fills a gap in the habanos lineup, which is for a cigar with consistently maduro wrappers. Despite the band it is only remotely related to Cohiba, but possibly warrants the higher price more than its (overpriced IMHO) lighter skinned cousins because of the pre-aged wrappers. It has all the same problems and faults as the rest of Habanos - inconsistency being the no.1. When you get a stellar box they are great cigars... (I also imagine that they don't age as well as others, being already aged a bit) Thanks to some great examples provided by Czars, a good box of Secretos would now rank as one of my favourite everyday cigars. I love the format for a decent coffee break and when on song is unique and unmatchable. Only the price prevents it from being my staple smoke. I have also had some very good Genios singles. So overall a success with the dampener being that as a higher priced cigar you expect better consistency of quality. If this ain't possible (it is Cuba after all), easy, get rid of the elegant but no doubt pricier boxes (the Piggy solution), and drop the price by a third. I would probably want this for the whole Cohiba marca...
orangedog Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Piggy and BMack pretty well sum up my view. The maduro line is great to catch the eye of non-cubans and a fancy new band will capture the trend smokers (who fall in both the NC and CC spectrum). I did enjoy the Genios. I have a box as a change of pace that I smoke one from every 1-2 years. Many have warned that they won't age past five years (this box is 08), but I figured why not find out. The Secretos is a nice change of pace when I don't feel like having a Reyes.
Mr. Japan Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Absolutely still not happy with these cigars. Smoked several during the years from boxes I 've got and only the Secretos is been acceptable. very unbalanced not only in the combustion but also in taste. I cancel them from my possible buying list.
perfectform Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Had a secretos last night and while it burned, drew and was constructed perfectly, the flavors were awful. Have not tried the other two. PASS!
Surucipe Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Had a secretos last night and while it burned, drew and was constructed perfectly, the flavors were awful. I second that entirely, won’t be buying any more of the Secretos! Adding price into the equation it’s an even bigger no-no! Still have a Magicos in the humi to give a try on a nice day. I know it’s not liked very much in general but I want my own taste buds to decide.
Bunner Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I have had 4 singles of magicos from my B&M (2010s)... and all plugged and nearly un-smokable....so it turned me off of them. i have had 2 secretos (2011s) and like them...
Chelsea8 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I enjoyed the Secretos, but have not had any the last 2 years. Time to crack open my other box bought at the same time, 3 or was it 4 years ago.
BlackIrish Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I've smoked through half a 10 count box of 08 Genios, and had one just two nights ago. My experience has been consistently "meh." Each time I have one I'm disappointed, not because the flavor isn't Cohiba (I don't expect it to be), but because the flavor is thin and unsatisfying. Like others, I've also had problems with the wrappers not burning well. After each one, I resolve to revisit them in six months to a year, but they just don't seem to get better.
BlackIrish Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Cohiba made maduros? Huh, good to know. I handed you a Genios on Monday, Mark.
mk05 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I handed you a Genios on Monday, Mark. Don't ruin my jokes!
coug28 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Don't ruin my jokes! He didn't. Your "joke" imploded all on its own;)
Rye Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 for people that like maduro 5 line, genios, magicos, secretos, is good - wat years or box code u recomend? I like Secretos. (Period) !! Hell, send the unwanted ones to the lovers! Don't just stare at them in contempt while they take up precious space!
Steens Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Genios are part of my regular rotation going through a box from May 2010 that have got better with age. Haven't tried the others
westg Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Just had a magicos from 2012 ,,,definitely the best cigar I have had this year,,which helps with my LFTW order..Been smoking lighter body cigars all summer with beer and scotch and soda. with the cooler weather out came some red (Bishop Shiraz) and the Magicos, nice.
jimb2u Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I have smoked all three and was hooked by my first couple of boxes (10 pack-2008) of genius and secrets that really had a solid flavor (though I do agree with the majority that its not a "Cohiba" flavor profile at all). They were hard to come by for a while and then they were available and I picked up a bunch of boxes...that were decidedly underwhelming. I have given many more of them away than I have smoked and haven't touched any for at @ a year. I will pull out one of each over the next few days and see what they are like now but the fact that I moved my open boxes to the back after the 2008's were gone says a lot about their overall appeal to me
Hopperb Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I still have a partial box of one of the line from a couple of years ago. Smoked a few but just never got the flavor I was looking for - definitely not a Cohiba and with that there are so many other good maduro cigars (NCs) out there that there wasn't a reason to go for these. That said, some must really enjoy them. Some vendors produce a list of their stock with box codes and dates and I never see anything older than 2011 on those lists which would lead me to believe that someone is buying them with fair regularity. Not sure how many Habanos produces a year but from my small sampling of these vendors all having newer stock someone is buying most of what they produce.... Not me....
MIKA27 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I love the Genios and Secretos, in fact, just purchased more Secretos. I love them because they ARE different and a great cigar to go to for a change. I love the Chocolate profile. Whilst not multi dimensional as most Cuban cigars, these are perfect when one wants a change.
Jeremy Festa Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Success. I like them all. Would put the Genios up there with some of my favourites. I have had one box of Magicos (MLO Oct '11) that I will be very upset with...when it's finished. I have two left and every single one has been very good!
