Nothing wrong with not liking jazz if it's not your cup of tea - can you really not stand it? There are so many great jazzers.....

Duke Ellington. Miles Davis recorded quite a bit of great material with John Coltrane in the mid to late '50s. Karrin Allyson, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan..... Toshiko Mariano. Wes Montgomery.

And on, and on.......

Dave Bruebeck Quartet - "Take Five".

Phenomenal.

But they only did it all for the nookie.

You know, the nookie. Ya, the nookie. So you can take that cookie and stick it up your ...

Yeah!

Since we're all picking apart Shlomo's choices... come on how can't you love the Beibs? He's talented, respectful, Canadian, and has control of the twitter and internets. He's a fine young upstart worthy of praise.

What music makes me ill? Justin Bieber.

Well.....that's just a tasteful image. Thanks for that.

And actually, years back when I was doing private security stuff, I had the chance to work escort at one of her stops into Toronto. I tell ya, even if you don't like the music (which I actually do, at least her older stuff), she puts on a hell of a show. Very visual, great stage set-up and inclusion of other artists, and just electrifies the crowd. As much as I hate to say it, kinda like many other artists (Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones, Prince, Kiss, Shania Twain, etc.) - even if you don't like the music, you've gotta admire the creativity and the "brand" that they've created around themselves and their shows.

Only other concert I've been to or worked that I found to be at a similar level to Bjork's was a concert that Feist did, in a smaller more local venue, that I took my wife to as a Christmas present.

I tried. I really did. I just don't understand it.

If you think there may be some stuff I missed, PLEASE point me in the right direction! I am more than willing to give it another shot!

No jazz, no Dylan, no Springsteen. But nickleback is good? Wow.

Lol. I love how the thread asks to name a song you hate but so many people slam a whole genre. Rap/hip hop always taking the biggest beating on these boards. So let me join in.

Jay z is a legend.

Period.

Lol.

But a SONG that makes me cringe and gag the most is sweet child of mine by guns and roses. It must be the most overplayed song ever. Also as I live in ireland, many of my local (belfast) radio stations play snow patrol far too much so any of their songs tend to make me throw up a little in my mouth, this also applies to the killers.

I might add that i really am starting to lose my patience with gangnam style, i hate the song but admire the artist but i fear i may start hating him very soon.

Oh and ed sheeran, what a massive tosser, anybody who uses their hair colour to sell records should be executed. This man is to red heads what right sed fred were to bald people: not doing them any favours.

And brian kennedy, i say this because i actually know him and his family very well (close friends on my dads side of the family and i did security for him a few years back). Ive told him many times he is a great singer but his songs are just god awful. Hes a good sport.

Jay Z. Meh.

Kool Keith. Pete Rock. Scarface. Bun B. DJ Screw. Madlib.

Those are legends.

IMO.

Lol

I totally 100%

Agree.

When I was a kid there was this god awful song called "Loving You" by a Minnie Riperton. I would run from a room to get away from it. Once my brothers found out how much I hated it they would run after me with a tape deck playing it.

I hope I'm getting this right, but the new age hippie/folk bands of late that pick at their instruments like the are almost afraid of them.

They seem to be in some kind of hip coma. Sloging through at least 3 notes repeatedly.

I can't retch because I can't listen long enough. zzzzzzz.

At least some of the others mentioned here are interesting, even of if in a bad way.

Ah, forgot about that one. Add it to the list:

Pumped up Kicks by Foster the f-alls

Anything by U2

Anything by Lady Gaga (poker face is only partially ok because of South Park's co-opting of it, only circumstance I'll sit through it)

Anything Nickelback. Can't stand them

Me to Chris...absolutely can't stand that band. Anything from those horrible horrible people comes on the radio I will just turn them off. Will get banned for life if I disclose what I really think of them.

OK, now we're really descending into the lower levels of hell! How didn't I think of that one before is beyond me! LOL

Springsteen - whether you agree or not with the world view captured in his lyrics, he is unquestionably America's greatest modern day poet and should be celebrated as such.

indeed - he is the shakespeare of our generation. (and dylan - we got two).

yes, that is the one i mentioned in my first post. could not remember the name - now it is stuck in my head. it is going to take a lot of rum to get it out. i feel exactly the same. truly appalling.

first, and not re shlomo, neil young? seriously? seen him a couple of times. ince he was out of his gourd but the first time, brilliant. 'like a hurricane', cortez, 'hey hey' and 'cinnamon girl' are all time classics.

next, i despair at anyone not enamoured of dylan. what he has done... so many many classics.

finally, shlomo, we may disagree on much re thi but we agree on jazz (the vast majority of it, anyway). self-indulgent, wannabee music that would bore a sloth.

Mmmmmm huh. Yup.

I'm not a huge fan of her music (not a big country fan). But a lot of it is "palatable".

However, once you've worked security at a show of hers, and been privy to the amazement that her band and stage production puts on, aside from the fact of the 16 or so costume changes that are done on the fly backstage (ever notice that the woman barely ever wore a bra for years and years, or just those thin sexy little sportsbras?), man.....its a wonderful thing.
