Overproof Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Most U2, many Rolling Stones, a lot of poppy Beatles, all Bob Dylan, most music from Bollywood films, pretty much any newish teeny bopper music (Taylor Swift, Bieber, any American Idol winner, etc...) almost any jazz, most electronika/house/techno/trip-hop/ and certainly muzak. This list will grow the more I think of it... Oh and people who whistle or hum constantly... I know what I like, and I certainly know what I don't! No JAZZ!!! Wha!? The evolution of Jazz changed Rock & Roll, R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk! Oh well...
Reevzy Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Any of the craaap that makes it on Rage at two or three in the morning. All those simpleton three chord crap songs makes hard working guitarists......... well, hard working.
khomeinist Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I tried. I really did. I just don't understand it. If you think there may be some stuff I missed, PLEASE point me in the right direction! I am more than willing to give it another shot! I would start with Coletrane's Impulse period with the great Elvin Jones on drums. Coletrane's self-titled album might be a good start. Miles Davis has a ridiculous number of classic albums. His quintet with Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, etc. is about as good as it gets. In my opinion... Etc. etc Feel free to retch
khomeinist Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 The Three Tenors send me to the porcelain god. John Philip Sousa is another ear destroyer.
Paul3 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I can't believe nobody named the name...Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up". I cringe just typing it. How many gag video's and phone ringtones have been made from this "song". I need to sit down, feeling ill all of the sudden
cigcars Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I don't know if you youngsters remember some horror song from long ago (the '80's) called, "Backjam Part 2" That song made me want to bust my radio...
Skyfall Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I really can't stand any: Metallica Aerosmith Greenday Rap Any Lillith Fair Artists Nickel back Radiohead Hip -Hop Nikki Minaj as previously mentioned is horrible Any Nashville Pop ( I actually like a lot of U2's older stuff. Joshua Tree is a great album) There is a long list of vomit inducing songs, but I think these two head up the list for me.
Overproof Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I tried. I really did. I just don't understand it. If you think there may be some stuff I missed, PLEASE point me in the right direction! I am more than willing to give it another shot! Maybe try some old Jazz-Fusion? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4ASTMFN-h4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N_SqtFerjg
Surucipe Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 anything whitney houston or bob marley (i was stuck in the back of a truck for 7 months while imbeciles played nothing else). 'i've never been to me' is a crime against humanity. that dreadful squeaky minnie ripperton thing. rob, clearly we'll be listening to some bonnie tyler next review. okay, i don't actually have any but if i did... 'holding on for a hero' at the end of shrek is a classic. X2 - „I’ve never been to me“ invokes an immediate and all-consuming rage in me (think Mike Tyson biting off Evander Holyfield’s ear or something of the sort…). Come to think of it, “I will survive” from Gloria Gaynor is also very high up in that list!
Deodato Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 "Songs that have you dry retching"? Well I reckon is a category killer.Have fun with it!
mazolaman Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Whew, that's a harsh reflection of 20 years of music! Slagging Dylan is a harsh reflection of 40 years of music! And dissing the Beatles? You must be deaf. James Blunt: anyone who can command an armored reconn unit in Kosovo, happens to be a damned good skier, and writes love songs deserves a certain amount of slack... Eagles: early favorite of mine, but much of their songs have worn thin with time - still one or two gems left. James Blunt, the finest example of Cockney rhyming slang ever..... He's a rich kid who's daddy got him in the army at officer class. I think I would rather wander out to a minefield than listen to 'ol Blunty round the camp fire at night. And Savage Garden...shockingly bad.
Tino Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 When I don't have sports on the Deck TV I have MTV classics. I cringe everytime I hear two songs......James Blunt's "Your Beautiful" and Bonny Tyler's .....well anything of Bonny Tyler. I crawl in a foetal position at the sound of "Bright Eyes/Total Eclipse of the Heart". What are the songs that get you dry retching? "Total Biscuit of the Heart" is much better
Dara Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 But for me, anything Celine Dion (but especially that Titanic song). +1 on Celine Dion, I once saw a video of her murdering an AC/DC song in her Vegas show (it was on YouTube, I didn't head to her show) Anything by Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, how about most music from the 80's and 90's Ken has a special place in well wherever the bad atheists go reserved for people who don't like Bruce! It is so. Sorry. Not enjoyable to me to listen to a man mumble and hum for 14 minutes. The man has a point Ken, I once say Dylan live and honestly he mumbled through half his songs....maybe it's just age though! For me, it has to be anything within the last 20 years by Elton John.....some of his early stuff was good but the new stuff is sentimental twaddle!
Styler Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Michael Buble, I'm not sure how any one man is able to sound so damn smug!
Smokin_Safari Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 U2 = "I vomit when Bono opens his mouth - you too?"
madandana Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Help me out here.I hang with the guys in my hood and we're all 40 ish. They will turn on this new crap.Riannah,Rap, and other new crap I've never heard of. When I ask for good old rock and roll like A/C D/C,Bob Segar, Lynard Skynard, Stones ect. They look at me like I'm nuts- call me old fashion (ya, maybe). I can't believe they listen to this stuff and think it's good. Keep in mind we live in rural Minnesota.
brutusthebuckeye Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Lionel Richie....Hello.....is it me ur lookin 4....and the video is even worse....Jerry curled Lionel and the blind clay artist....gag me with a spoon
CaptainQuintero Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 i could not agree more. pompous, self-important tosser. X10000 forget bailing out the banks, build a giant cannon and fire that gobshite into the sun, reload with 'the edge', morrisey and all rappers. Charge £100 a viewing ppv style and the world economy will be back on track!
Skyfall Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I only dissed the Beatles' more pop, bubblegum tracks. Help, Here Comes the Sun, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Obla-Di Obla-da, Can't Buy Me Love, etc...all pop, bubblegum, trash....to me anyways As for Dylan, yes, I slag all his music, but that is not even close to the magnitude of music that has come out over a 20 year period by every single artist. I don't like the one musician, but surely there are some over the course of 2 full decades that are not vomit inducing! Its a bit different here! I also don't care for the Dylan Mumble Sessions, but "Lay, Lady Lay" is a fantastic song, as is "Cross the Green Mountain" "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is a pretty tasty lick as well.
PigFish Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Neil Young! Can't sing, can't play guitar... would be laughed off a stage at a talent show. Dance music. Who would consider scratching a vinyl record backwards the sound of music? -Piggy
Colt45 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I tried. I really did. I just don't understand it. If you think there may be some stuff I missed, PLEASE point me in the right direction! I am more than willing to give it another shot! Nothing wrong with not liking jazz if it's not your cup of tea - can you really not stand it? There are so many great jazzers..... Duke Ellington. Miles Davis recorded quite a bit of great material with John Coltrane in the mid to late '50s. Karrin Allyson, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan..... Toshiko Mariano. Wes Montgomery. And on, and on.......
