Saw the Afro Cuban All Stars in Concert. We were dancing in the aisles.

Saw Bruce Springsteen in concert twice, incredible.

But if I had to sit through seeing some of the others mentioned here, I would throw myself off a balcony.

Like a blind man's review of a painting.

at least if were deaf, i wouldn't have to suffer jazz. but please share the expertise that allows you to dismiss other views so callously.

You know perhaps I should keep my nose out of this because when Kenny causes trouble it takes some of the heat off me!!! -LOL

I am gonna' play Mod stand in for a moment.

When one attacks something that another likes there is always an implication that what the other person likes is inferior. Surly we all understand this. But Kenny, when you say that you think Jazz is music for wankers you do more than imply difference in taste. You say that wankers listen to Jazz! As a lawyer you can't just say "Jurors, please ignore the testimony... " after you say it! Can you?

Now frankly mate I don't care if you call my guys Emerson, Lake and Palmer talentless musical Pygmies, it is gonna' roll off me! But some people here, once you have called them a wanker are going to make implications back at you!

Saying that I don't like Neil Young is not the same as saying if you like Neil Young you are... *&$^% (fill in your own blanks).

On Kens behalf... I think we all have done this time to time! Frankly when we say that we don't like XYZ we are at least implying that those that do have less "taste" than we do!!! Can't we call each other wankers from time to time?

I don't think that we should get all in a huff about it. Do you listen and like the music for your own sake, or for that of another?

If I look at Kommies comments about Jazz, while I cannot say that I agree or disagree with the statements, I would read into it that Jazz guys are cool and classy!

Peace out!!! -the Pig

let me quickly clarify something that may have been misunderstood - my reference to 'music for tossers' was to the music and the musicians playing it in certain cases and not to those listening. my comments all relate to the music. i would have thought that self evident but apparently not and if anyone took offence, seriously? i have heaps of friends who love jazz. i even have some who love country. i may not like the music but that is not relevant to my thoughts on those who do.

Didn't have you pegged for a prog guy Pigz

King Crimson? You ever listen to Can (German Prog)?

Early Genesis is pretty good stuff. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a favorite of mine.

I remembered another song that has me running from the hair salon even if I am only half done...

Kama Kama Kama Kama Kama Chamaleon...

Can are fantastic.

What I said, Mushroom Head.

Check out Johnny Greenwood's OST from Norwegian Wood, featuring Can.

You're projecting, Ken. No offense taken or intended; I just mean that sometimes we mock what we don't understand. I share your taste in most of the simpler genres, but I love jazz. I'm a musician, a classical musician and not a jazz musician, but if you think Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and many of the other greatest musical minds of the last century are 'tossers', I don't think it's so much a reflection on them as on you. That's all I was saying.

hmmmm...tough call...

Nickelback,

Mumford & Sons,

Bruno Mars

Gotye

...I'm sure I could come up with more....

...oh, did I mention, Nickelback?

E (The P is Slient)

I'm sorry, but comparing Gotye to Bruno Mars is like comparing Bruce Cockburn to Michael Bolton.

I wasn't really comparing...none of the artists repetoire appeals to me...I just cringe any time I hear any, and all, songs by the artists mentioned...they're just not my cup of tea...

Fellow tossers:

I'm in it for the laughs.

Always Klassy (yeah right)

Kommie

Yeah, I stretched a little on the cool and classy comment!!! -LOL But figured if you squawked I could just tell you to kiss my butt again! -P

Used to have a bunch of old progressive stuff, King Crimson, Happy the Man, Argent but not much anymore.

To me, nothing like listening to Dance on a Volcano played live. Heart of the Sunrise same, would prefer Tales From Topographic Oceans and Relayer to "Don't Kill the Whale." Sorry Ken!

I can easily hop from that to Mozart's 40th, or Brandenburg concertos or Handel. To me a violin and an electric guitar can be played with equal beauty. I like great percussion, not just tapping on a snare and a bass that is played like a lead instrument. What the hell, I like the sound of the bassoon!!! -LOL

Want a great concert; see the LA Phil play the music of Bernard Herrmann. (Alfred Hitchcock movie scores).

Enough for my varied tastes... -Piggy

Funny, I heard Long Distance Runaround / The Fish on the radio in the car yesterday - reminded me of how much I was into Yes and Steve Howe in another time.

Love the bassoon, oboe, french horn..... one of the things I love about symphony orchestras is the different instruments playing their different parts, but all coming together as one.

P.S. Yes was my first live concert as a kid - forget exactly what I paid but it was either $10 or $7.50 for thenth row floor at the Boston Garden.

My first concert was RATT

For me, RATT were the best of their time. Their EP, Out of The Cellar, and Invasion of Your Privacy (probably my fave)....

Crank up "You're In Love" in the car and see how much faster you get where you're going......

Yeah. I was at the Out of the Cellar tour. Can't remember who else played.... probably Def Leppard or Whitesnake.....

The drummer from DL lost his arm 5 minutes from my house :)

I still have it somewhere...

the boss? that demands a lifetime ban from the forum surely?

I was waiting for that answer...

I like a huge variety of music types (classic, opera, rock, grunge, heavy metal, folk, irish, electronic etc) but there are some that make me retch...

Almost all 80's popular music. Almost all country and western. All rap and hip hop. All manufactured boy bands from all eras.

I agree with the statement about 80's pop! That was the worst decade for music and I had to experience it first hand. Yech! I also enjoy a wide variety of music and am an absolute lover of jazz!

What I really detest are 'acts' that lack any real talent and are marketed for looks, ie. Brittany Spears, Justin Beiber, etc.....

Ever hear Ibraham Ferrer sing "Silencio" ( Buena Vista Social Club)? It will bring a tear to your eye.

Claude Debussey's " Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Fawn" or "Clair De Lune", Ravels "Bolero", Borodin's "Polovotsian Dances"? Absolutely captivating!

Dylan and Young are both modern day philosophers that I admire very much! The Beatles? Shlomo is right, they started out as a 'boy band'...... then they met Ravi Shankar and started dropping acid.... that was the good stuff.

In 1978, I saw AC/DC at the Music Hall in Cleveland..... my bones are still shaking! Great stuff! Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones ( OK, guys, you can quit now peace.gif )

So much great jazz! Oscar Peterson, Ornet Coleman, Modern Jazz Quartet, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond...... I could go on, but I will leave it with this cut for Shlomo and Ken..... enjoy old "88 Fingers"!

Justin Beiber is about all I can't stand. At any given traffic light you'll hear me wailing away on just about any of the songs/artists mentioned here unfortunately. Girly music rocks!
